ADSL modem not connecting to WRT54G linksys wireless router

Hi all ,


I have been hitting my head against the walls for several days now .
My equipment is as follows :
1 speedtouch 546v6 DSL broadband modem ( from "romtelecom" if familiar )
1 RJ-11 port & 4 Ethernet ports .

1 WRT54G linksys wireless router .

My configuration :

PC ( Eth port ) ----- >(Ethernet Port) SpeedTouch 546v6 Modem ( DSL ) ------> ISP


This **** works fine after installing the drivers and running the step-by-step instruction that came with the modem .





My desired configuration


PC(Wireless) -->(Wireless)WRT54G WirelessRouter(Ethernet)----->(Ethernet)SpeedTouch 546v6 DLS modem(RJ 11)------> ISP

If i was somehow unclear with my diagram ... I need the damn PC to connect to the internet through the wirless router .


I've configured the wirless router to connect through PPPoE ( user and password ) . When i click the connect button it tries to connect but nothing happens . I mean the WAN interface does not recieve an IP , and the status is disconnected .
I tried turinng off DHCP on my router and still no work .


Can anyone tell what settings should i consider on my DSL modem ?
VCI... Bridge mode or Routed PPP mode ... And if enabling DHCP on my modem
has any influence ... ( my opinion is that it shouldn't but then again i'd happilly paint the room red if someone were to tell me that's the way i can get this **** working ) .

I'd go back to what you had:
pc (via ethernet) to modem
then go:
pc (via ethernet) to linksys : linksys (via wan port) to modem
get that working and then go:
pc (via wireless) to linksys : linksys (via wan port) to modem

If the modem was connecting with just the pc you should not have to change any of it's settings.

You should not have to do any PPPoE connections on the Linksys either. Just use it as a router.

DHCP should not make any difference.

I am not familiar with any of the above equipment. But usually on the router there should be 4 ethernet ports plus a 5th one for the dialup (equivalent to the RJ11 but it's an ethernet port). Well that's the case with my equipment.

PC -> Netgear wireless router -> Iburst modem

The netgrear modem has the dialup connection settings configured and is attached to the modem via ethernet cable.

we have common problem

isp -- modem/router -- wireless router--

when i turn on my laptop i get connected but
no internet connection, but later on my laptop
will be disconnected
modem/router = pppoe
linksys wireless = what connection i should do to get internet connection

There are different configurations that you can consider. But the simplest and most accessable is:

1) Cable LAN out on DSL modem to WAN in on router.

2) Put the DSL modem in bridged mode.

3) Use PPPOE (with DSL account details) & enable DHCP (useful but not necessary) on your Linksys router.

4) Enjoy.
