So about two weeks ago I decided that I'd tried VM for long enough.. so I applied to port to MTN... now this port just isn't happening?

The MTN people tell me the port request is giving problems somewhere... and they also told me that I'm not the first person trying to port away from VM but having problems doing so.. that makes me suspicious: Is Virgin Mobile refusing/blocking port requests?

VM was very loud mouthed about MNP so I would hope that they respect the system no matter where I wish to port to..

Hi redarrow,

It is not our policy to purposely delay a port.
There could be several reasons as to why the port is failing, and not always caused by ourselves.
Often we have found that the port details are entered incorrectly, and since it is a 90% automated system very little intervention takes place from our side.

It is also important to keep in mind that the conduct of the operators is subject to scrutiny by the governing body, and the penalties can be quite severe.

If you would send me your contact details via PM, I will be happy to give you feedback.

Kindest Regards,

Gerald.

Thanks for clearing that up Gerald..

I've PM'ed you the number I'm trying to have ported..

If you could just confirm that the problem is not on VM's side.. well then I'll leave it at that.

Thanks.

Any feedback on this issue Gerald?

My port request still appears to be failing ...

The problem must be somewhere between VM and MTN... sseeing as my Virgin sim card is not going dead.. I do get the impression that theres a problem on VM side...

When I ported from Vodacom to Virgin, my Vodacom simcard went dead after a few days... only Vodacom could disable their own simcards - therefore things must work the same here.. not so?

Hi redarrow,

As long as MTN submit the port correctly it should be fine if you are outside the 60day window.

I will get my MNP team to check up on this.

Regards,

Gerald.

Thanks Gerald, much appreaciated..

I am definetly outside the 60 day window.. my previous port was applied for on the 11th November last year..

Thanks

@Skeptic no... I wouldn't be doing that... I'm not mad.
Nope.. I'm going to MTN.

Hi redarrow,

Please could you confirm if the issue has been resolved?
The odd thing is MTN only requested the port on the 12th, and according to our records it went through yesterday?

I think somewhere along the line there is some miscommunication.

Hi Gerald,

The issue has been resolved my port went through today. :)
My VM simcard was still active at 7:00AM ... sometime between then and 7:45AM it suddenly went inactive...

MTN told me they were going to resubmit the port request on monday (i.e., the 12th) which is probably why it looks like they only submitted it then for the first time... or so I would imagine.

Thanks for your help/feedback. :)

EDIT: Hey.. this was my 500th post!
Hmm time for a sig overhaul..
