Rant - iburst couldn't be bothered to debit me for 6 months...

Yesterday I received an email stating "Please contact ****** in accounts department on 011 676 6399, it is regarding your account" so I phoned them (they couldn't even phone me ), turns out that the debit order that I signed and agreed to has not gone through since September last year when I joined Iburst. They've only discovered this now after 6 months   Are they fast asleep?

There is now an outstanding amount of R1309.00 that I must pay . I haven't been watching that account very closely so did not notice the the monthly subscription of R195 wasn't being deducted. I was asked if I can now pay R390 per month to catch up . I budgeted for the monthly amount of R195 but now must cough up R390 for the next 6 months to "catch up".

This is not my mistake but I must pay extra per month to correct their mistake

What do you guys think?

Sorry to say but you are going to have to pay, the excuse that you didn't notice they were not deducting the money is rather lame. Me thinks you were hoping to get free internet now they have caught up with you and you moan ? Sometimes i really don't understand people  I think you should be happy that they are not trying to get the full amount out of you in one foul swoop.

You won't like what I think since even though the accounts department is useless it is still up to you to make sure there is enough money in your bank account to cover the monthly iBurst costs.
If they skip a month or 6 the money you alloted for your iBurst payment should just have been left untouched until they came knocking on your door, that way you would not have the problem you now sit with.

Even though I "knock" the incompetence of their various departments in a lot of my posts I feel what has happened to you is your own fault.

Fire away!!!

Yeah I had the same problem. I don't have a problem paying, I just wish it was brought to their attention earlier. How did you subscribe pardus? I went through HiFi corp so iBursts story was they didn't get my credit card details, which is strange considering I've bought extra bandwidth on numerous occasions. You'd think they could get the details from there.

The method here is at question rather than whether I noticed the deductions (which I didn't), it is not MY responsibility to ensure that their debit order goes through, my responsiblilty is to just to ensure that there is money in the account to cover the debit order!

I know I have to pay, that is a given, what I object to is the way iburst goes about it. After the first non deduction in Sept how the heck did they NOT notice???

Why does it take 6 months to figure it wasn't being deducted??!

Bought from their offices in Sandton, paid by credit card and extra bandwidth also purchased by credit card

It is actually your responsibility.

Once again South Africans bend over and accept shoddy service levels.
A contract was signed indicating the method of payment for services.
The one party in the contract did not comply with the contract stipulations.
This is NOT the other party's fault unless the contract states that it is.

So ... it boils down to what exacty the agreement says?

You could turn that around and say "how the heck did YOU not notice"

After all you only have to keep track of one account, your own.

Maybe in future you will keep track and then this problem will not catch you again.

Don't take me wrong I'm NOT flaming you, just pointing out that it is your responsibility to monitor your bank account, lets hope others will learn from this thread and not end up with the same problem.

Usually most financial institutions would phone 7 days or so to enquire as to why an debit order didn't go through, and to make alternative arrangements.

Amazingly I still recieve a tax invoice every month in the post stating that R195 has been charged... there is no mention that the debit order has not gone through or that I am in arrears?

Yes I will pay closer attention to my account in future and make sure that an automatic debit order goes off as it should, perhaps iburst can give me a discount for doing part of their job too :D, maybe if they send me a letterhead I can print my own invoice :D :D

thankfully I'm not bound by a 24 month contract, the competition is actually looking more attractive

As far as their accounts department goes the competition will always look more attractive.:D

They've also skipped my payment this month but it will stay there untouched until they wake up even if it takes 6 months.:p

"4.10 The subscriber indemnifies and holds the Service Provider harmless for any loss suffered as a result of incorrect amounts being debited in respect of applicable charges."

from their terms and conditions, I'am not having a go at you but i have been there before, so you could say i speak from experience although mine was only for 2 missed debit orders and it wasn't iburst. It was a gym contract.

But then each invoice recieved over the six months should reflect that no payment was recieved and that amount owing was growing....

I think maybe someone else might of been charged and paying for your 6 months of freedom...

I'm sure any accounting system would throw up a red flag when payment has not been recieved, not to mention the monthly invoice surely would be increasing due to amount not being paid..

Maybe they do it manually? can't afford there own bandwidth to have a system running on the network for all accounts staff.. Paper got lost when someone stopped in the bathroom...

Point taken :)

The shoudl send an account statement rather than a statement showing what the charges for the month were.

A similar thing happened to me. I noticed the error after the 1st month. Sent emails and left various messages with them. No one contacted me with how to pay the outstanding. Carried on for 2 further months before I got a call stating that they would be suspending my account. I was about to go to Australia for just over a week so i told them do that as long as they pro-rata my account for that month.

I then redirected them to the various emails I had sent them. At which point they became apologetic. Paid them after I got back.

I cant understand how you can "carefully budget" and then not know the money had come off your account, those two tend to work with each other.

That aside, I see Iburst is doing what Iburst does best, [picture of a scew] people. I guess junior knotty-craig must be jumping up and down squealing in frustration with having to deal with this.

That's nothing

My contract sucks bigtime!!!

Check this

G1 Package (Modem + 1.5Gb Cap) = R599 per Month

The above contract without modem = R389 per Month

here's the math

R389 x 24 = R9336
R599 x 24 = R14376

R14376 - R9336 = R5040 THEY ARE CHARGING ME FOR A R2190 MODEM!!!

taking out a personal loan is cheaper than this...it's ridiculous!!!!

Feel my pain
