Is iburst any good in Port Elizabeth

Its not worth it, and I doubt it is any good, though I am only speaking from experience on the Jozi network.

Rather go with aerosat in your area, heard lots of good things from them and only bad things from iburst.

I am looking at iburst in pe. Can you please tell me if they are worth it

I got an iburst for my brother there in PE and it works very well. So i would say its your best option when it comes to wireless broadband services. 3G/HSDPA did not work there. Neither did 3G/HSDPA work at 2 of my friends's place who are in Upper Morningside (behind the hospital) and Fourways (behind montecasino) all in Joburg, but iBurst just worked!!!

I say Aerosat out of principle considering the stunt iburst pulled.

Every time I think about that post it makes my blood boil, on the other hand what can we expect a cornered threatened rat to do.

You'll also probably find that Aerosat has better QUALIFIED staff than iBurst, certainly can't be worse.

On topic:
Beri, try to get them both to come out and test the signal strength then take whoever has the best signal.

Also try NOT to take it on a contract as you will regret it if for some reason your signal goes bad you will be stuck with iBurst for the full period.

sounds good thanks
by the looks of it nobody is good enough. Telscum iburts sentech vodacom ens all have s**T service.

I dont know much about iburst, but I have been with Aerosat for over 2 years now and I find their connection very good. If I have a problem the technical staff come out immediately and the problem is solved. I have recommended Aerosat to about 20 people and they are all happy with it. I have the R295-00/month home package and would not change to any other internet server. I have saved so much on telephone costs as well as it is a wireless connection.:)

I had a terrible experience with Aerosat a few years ago, they seem to have improved though.

To be fair with any of the internet wireless companies there are bound to be some people that have bad connections due to their locations, but iBurst has a high percentage of customers who have bad or slow connections way below the "up to 1mbps" range.
Besides that qualified service from a company is very important and iBurst lacks that badly, as well as not responding to emails, the list goes on and it's been getting worse over the past 2yrs.

Desertgirl, as a matter of interest what does the R295/month package consist of speed and bandwidth wise, and is it hard capped when you reach your monthly quota?

True MrH but I had clear LOS to the tower, good signal strength etc. The sort of problems I had weren't related to signal anyway:

Mail somehow disappearing into a black hole on their mail servers which we had to use because for some reason they couldn't get the routing or whatever right so we could connect to the Hetzner POP3 services.

Speeds slower than dialup during the day on what was I think supposed to be a 512k connection, P2P not going above 2KB/s, the tower going down fairly frequently etc.

It was enough to put me off WISPs for life, but then again they may have improved now, that was a couple of years ago. If you want to look at their packages:

yeah Syndyre, the incompetence seems to be a problem in sa, but as you said that was a few years ago, would be interesting to know if/how they've improved or not.

The problem you had with LOS happens with iBurst as well, one iBurst user that springs to mind and that is "Who is Michael" but there are others with that same problem.
Those who have such problems should just move over to ADSL as their connections will never come up to standard.

For users like myself who in general have good connections wireless is a good option if you need mobility or need to move to different locations from time to time.
My main gripe is with the lack of incentive to stay with iBurst as well as the incompetence of their staff. The way they go about things is as if they're running the company from a back room.

From what I've read about Iburst I'd really expect better from what is after all a fairly major company.

HAHAHAHAHAHHA and you think telkom is better????

Iburst product is good provided you have decent connection and non saturated BS's

Given the FACT that their accounts department (or should I blame the software?) is useless, the great techies who never phone back after promising to call back... it's pretty much how companies in this sector seem to work...

Telkom is 100 times worse, but Telkom's ADSL does seem to be more reliable than Iburst, once you've got it installed that is.

From what I can see on the Aerosat site the package you have is a max speed of 64kbps unlimited bandwidth unless I'm missing something.
And their 384kbps is R795 unlimited bandwidth.

Not knocking it but at iBurst for R599 (or R699 on contract) we get 1mbps @ 3GB and then 64kbps unlimited bandwidth after we are capped, from my point of view since I have a good connection iBurst works out better even with the bad service.

iBurst recently appointed Netformatix (Pty) Ltd in PE as their regional agents to look after their clients.

If you have issues with iBurst in Port Elizabeth give them a call.

(BTW not 2, but three active towers, 4th installed but not activated.)

Beri,

Connection is good in PE ( well in the CBD). No connection at the airport yet, I had to use 3G. It will be good if they can get a tower closer to the aiport as well as I frequently travel from JHB to PE.
