Can you believe this one? Telkom have been battling to resolve ADSL problems in the Paulshof area since December 2006. I have pro actively gathered names of both Business and residential customers in the area who have been affected and submitted these to Telkom. There was apparently cable damage due to contruction in the area and since the repair, my line has been unstable - even at 384Kb/s.

So I contacted Telkom again yesterday and the latest response is that they are going to terminate my ADSL service as they cannot justify/ find the problem. So now it looks like I am going to be sitting with no ADSL after having a pretty reliable 4Mb/s service last year.

contact BEELD's (newspaper) consumer rights forum - "tot-u-diens" - they surely have the power to sort Telkom out in your case.

That is shocking... F@ck I would be p1ssed off... Did you contact the beeld?

Hi mccallum
I was reading and interesting article yesterday about consumer rights.
Check it out HERE.

If it was me I would contact this woman, forget about bye bye peter and that, see if Wendy Knowler can help. Maybe she has an idea or 2 or will be willing to start asking a few questions. You do pay line rental for this service.

One minute we see Telkom not reaching their Broadband targets and how they plan to fix this. Then the next we hear about how they simply lay-off customers because they can't sort their own **** out.

All i can do is laugh. What a pathetic joke of a company

Shame.

You are complaining and Telkom says: "Sorry we can't help you." We will waiver all your obligations.

Now you and all these kiddie formites want go to the Beeld and how disgusted they are.

What! do you want Telkom to do? Are you so important that they should supply you with a line all the way just for you.

Grow up.

Of course yes! WTF do you think? Geez - where did you learn about customer service - Telkom or Vodacom?

I strongly disagree, though I'll admit it's not entirely Telkom's fault.

In the UK the regulator forces BT - even now that they no longer have a monopoly - to supply a connection to anybody who wants one, EVEN IF IT'S NOT ECONOMIC TO DO SO.

Telkom ARE still a monopoly, and as such should be obligated to provide a service to anyone. Sadly our regulator was happy to accept a bribe from Telkom to waiver the obligation to build connections to underserviced areas.

YES

 I read this twice. Couldn't believe it. And I believe that anyone, even if it its only for a telephone line is important enough!

And FYI he said that businesses and other people that was affected by the problem.
As I can understand he had a 4mb line, which would give you a bill of over R800 a month,a ssuming he has a 2GB account from Telkom aswell.

Is client paying R800 a month not important?

Although it's not Telkom's fault, its their responsibility of fixing it.

LOL, imagine Telkom telling all the customer in Durban they are not important, and the weather is not their fault!

Skinny little nerd hiding behind a username, feeling unwanted and unliked and looking for attention, albeit negative attention.

Sooner or later everybody is going to need broadband so why don't they just roll it out everywhere and fix up those problems instead of taking lines away. I mean surely there was the same problem when the telephone system was implemented, and they had to install lines everywhere. So if they look to the future they can do the same with broadban, just install even if its not feasible, just like the phone lines out in one horse towns were. I am starting to think that the problem with Telkom is that those on top don't have any foresight and are maybe a bit old school and want to hold onto circuit switching and voice technology. If they get ADSL everywhere Telkom can capitlize off it later when there is more competition in market. They should also embrace VOIP and start finding ways to turn it into a business instead of fighting it. Its a very sad reality that even in other countries there is opposition to VOIP.

Jeez, it's people like getafix who promotes the, "oh well at least i'm not dying of cancer, broadband isn't that great anyway!" attitude.

He is a paying customer, and as such it is his right to have a service. The poor guy lost his connection, due to a fault on telkom's infrastructure, which may not be telkoms fault as such, but it is their responsibility to get it fixed!

I do however agree, that telkom will have the same attitude R32Bn - R800 isn't that much.

We host a couple of our clients websites on our servers, seeing as they use our application, now if our servers go down, they have the right to complain to us because we charge them for the service.

Damn and that part about being so important, hell yes he is! And so are all the rest of us!! Kiddie forumites, all I can say is shame, you have over 200 posts and now you come and call us kids! One day you are going to need advice, and who are You gonna call, because us kids won't help you....

Getafix - Do yourself a fav....read the Beeld's consumer forum each monday.

There are TONS of issues resolved with Telkom ADSL customers being ignored/told bs.

You are not helping the cause with those "nice words".

If any person has the money , and the requirements for ADSL - ffs , LET IT BE!.... Telkom has to provide you if you "qualify" ...if their infrastructure is sheeet - hassle them until they fix it...its your RIGHT!
