Do you guys know of any product available? We have a remote site equiped with solar panels and batteries. Problem is, when for some reason the voltage drops I need to be made aware of it before equipment powers down.

I have heard rumors of such a product that works off the cellular network, I jusr cant find anything.

Please help!!

You can get these from places like R.S. Electronics / G.T. Electronics, and monitor them up via Nagios. If I'm not mistaken, there's a whole project on this on the Nagios forums

How much does solar cost these days ?
Any sites or links?

Any serial DC V logger will do

Hi

All you need is a normal serial interface datalogger that logs your Voltage. Then just plug in a serial to ethernet converter, and plug that into your RB's ethernet port. Install the software on your pc, and voila!

Thats all good and fine, but the whole site is like an hour out of town. What I need really it to be able to power the units down if they need to be rebooted, as well as know the current voltages.

I am waiting for a quote on a decent telemetry setup, should only be about R2500 or so. This will enable me to receive data at specified intervals, as well as power up/down remotely. Will keep you posted if you guys are interested.

Sounds like you're looking for an AMR product. Most of the meter manufacturers make them. Actaris/Conlog etc.

Hi
I build a gsm based telemetry system using a nokia mobile phone that can monitor 4 digital inputs and control up to 8 relays via sms.
Completely self contained, needs only 12 v dc supply at about half an amp.
Works on pay as you go system and I could add voltage comparators, etc to send you an sms when voltage low or restored, etc, whatever you want.
You can send an sms to this unit to reset or disconnect power, etc
let me know if you are interested,
regards Clanser

The CyberMate is an excellent choice for sms only reporting or control. Info at http://www.adroitcybernetics.co.za/

If you need realtime GPRS based monitoring these guys provide an excellent telemetry solution as well as back-end acquisition. They are primarily into vehicle tracking but will sell units for use as telemetry monitoring units. These guys are only interested in volumes of 20+ though.

Look at this product from Steca Solar Charger, it might be the one as it has RJ45 interface possibly for remote monitoring, hopefully it has a web interface , not much data on the PDF Datasheet

The Mikrotik RB 433AH boards have inbuilt Voltage monitoring capability. see /system/health ... you can then write scripts to watch it and sms or email when getting low

Many thanks , I will also look at the Mikrotik Routerboard RB433UAH with USB slot for GSM modem
