iBurst stepping up to the plate vs Vodacom and MTN?

Well seeing as though Vodacom HSDPA is cheaper than iBurst I phoned up iBurst and asked them if there is going to be any response from them, and they responded by saying 'watch this space' and that they will have something to offer at the end of the month...

Does anyone have any idea what it's going to be? I just moved over to ADSL but I may need a portable connection again (sigh) and I have an iBurst UTD so Id rather stay with IB than go to another provider.

Let's hope it's a little better than the half-assed attempt of giving 24 month contract users a wopping 500mb extra :sick:

A lot of us have been "watching this space" for 2 yrs, then they came up with that 500mb for contract customers only.

What they should do is have a survey and ask customers what they would like to see and then they'll have a better idea if we will be happy or not.
 
Well they actually did that about a year ago.. I'm not sure what they did with the results but not much came of it anyway, I think they introduced the rollover or something :/
 
Ok so this time around maybe they should give us a list of what they would consider to change and let us choose, then they can give us what the majority wants from that list.

Only one snag that I see and that is we'll never know if they really gave us what the majority wanted or what they decided to give us, unless they hold a poll on their website.
 
I-Burst have a relatively free source for a good survey here on myadsl don't they??

If they play their cards right from here on then maybe they can come back but so far I am heavily anti-I-burst because of their lame PR lately

The offering from iBurst has to be good. Currently HSDPA is 1.8mb/s, but this will certainly increase in the near future with the introduction of more 3.6 and 7.2mb/s enabled datacards and expansion of the VC & MTN backbone network to be able to support these speeds.

Realistically, what iBurst need to offer is a combination of cheaper products, faster speeds and larger caps, i.e. R499/mont for a 2mb/s or 3mb/s account with a 5G/10G cap to replace the R599/month and 1mb/s G3 product - and to support this they MUST already have the backbone network installed. Preferably, existing subscribers can exchange their old modems for new ones (at minimum costs if necessary).

To be honest, I'd be happy with current speed limits (1MB) if it was consistent and not handled on an overloaded network. I get good speeds as it is, so a larger cap and/or cheaper prices are right up my alley. What use is a huge pipe if you can only use it for 5 minutes?

There are a couple of problems with that idea and that is 1) for holding a survey users will have to register under their iBurst account names in order to control the voting on what we would want, and 2) I doubt very much that they would want ALL their customers to be aware of this forum due to the "deserved bashing" for their incompetence that they get here a good bit of the time which they have no control over.:rolleyes:
 
3G/HDSPA isn't so great.

There's a laptop in my house running off it and speeds are 1/100th of my iBurst connection 80% of the time not to mention the software gives TONS of crap sometimes just breaking itself down. Worst of all there's a vodacom tower down the road from me so definitely no lack of signal.
 
I use my father's 3G every now and again. Speed is great, but ill have to agree with Basjohn, that software is crap and i get many of disconnections with it.

Watch this space... bla bla bla, the same crap we've been hearing for 2 yrs.

It better be an increase in cap/decrease in pricing or increase in softcap speed.
 
Well I don't mind waiting the whole 8 days until the end of the month, but I wouldn't nearly be surprised if nothing happens.
 
All mobile broadband providers in SA suffer from an overloaded, inefficient network. It may only change depending on your location or day/time of week etc. They may be hard at work expanding the network and/or improving the efficiency (e.g. software), but I guess they dont want extra capacity to be unused, so they ensure that demand is always greater than supply.

Nevertheless, I still plan to cancel my iBurst and go to HSDPA at the end of the month if Iburst dont change their pricing and offer better value for money packages. For what I will be using it, HSDPA should be sufficient.
 
This is not an overloaded problem since my downloads are as fast as ever even though my browsing is so slow, this just does not make much sense as it's never been like this before.
My 33,6kbps connection is faster at browsing than iBurst for the past week.
 
After your 24 month contract expires you should be on month-2-month at the reduced rate.

I guess they accounts department can't figure that out, but more than likely they don't know that your contract has ended.
