I got myself a new PC and setup my internet connection again by phoning Mweb. But ever since I set it up it would dial up and check out maybe 2 sites and then disconnect. If I try to check my mail it downloads 3 e-mails and then disconnects can anyone help.

check auto disconnect etc.
otherwise dump dialup, get DSL. :D

Dialup in most cases tend to work out more expensive - so really, do yourself a favour!.

I'd love to but at the moment it's not financially viable and my dial-up kinda suits my current needs. Anyway I've already checked all those any other ideas.

I'll check but a user called X-dsl sent me a mail with a number and a username and password to use to check if its my account or if its the modem. Do u think its safe to try and use the stuff he sent me. The number is 0860007249. Thanx

It sounds like noise on your line. Pick up the receiver and dial a couple of numers slowly and listen of any kind of humming, static etc. Your line should be dead quiet and have a high signal to noise ratio (loud volume, basically) for a 56K modem to negotiate 56K - most of the time it would be around 50.2-52K.

Remember, bad weather that includes lightning specifically, causes clipping and scratching on the line that forces the modem to re-negotiate during connection.
If a 'clip' or 'scratch' occurs during the re-negotiation process, the process will terminate and the modem will hang up.

Very safe.
That number is on the up-and-up.
