I love this country, but sometimes (February 2007) I get frustrated.
What am I talking bout? SA losing the rights to nintendo...
I had the biggest desire to get myself a DS, and eventually when I got the cash...GONE! never to come back.
I don't think I have to explain what happened... most of you probably already know.

I can still import, but i don't want to import evertime i'm looking for a new game or hardware...

If only they knew what they had...

There's somebody selling a DS lite, plus games and accessories in the classifieds section.
 
Have Take2 stopped importing games? You'll generally want the US versions anyway because they are cheaper.

There isn't much hardware, if anything, to buy other than the console itself.

so now i have to save for that but by the time i have the cash it'll be gone. but ok we'll see

the toysrus stores up here still has some stock. Got mine the other day. Very very very happy with it:D It's great! :D :D

Now just have to wait for holidays then I can go buy some more games :D

BTW, toysrus, btgames and nuworld has games up here. Some pretty steep, but lots for R200-R300 :D

What happened to the stock at the two branches of Toys R Us in Cape Town?
 
That R1900 deal isn't too bad, but I'd offer a couple of hundred less. It includes both the Hori screen protectors and pouch, both of which are excellent.
 
The TRU here in Somerset west wont be getting any nintendo products since october already.

i know about dvdcrave.com but i'm not so sure about this whole importing business, i know the ds is region free but still...

and how much extra will you pay for shipping and all that other stuff before you get it?
 
I think I worked it out - actually just work it out on their site, they've got all the calculators and you can do it in Rands. I was reasonably impressed with their service - I ordered a bunch of stuff but just std post insured. Someone in out customs department obviously took a liking to it, so when I claimed on the insurance they were prompted and courteous in payment. If I order again I'll only use UPS. Which is what I used here, this is for the black DS lite:

Total Product Cost: AUD $181.77
ZAR 1,068.08

Shipping Cost: AUD $56.88
ZAR 334.23

Total Order Cost: AUD $238.65
ZAR 1,402.30

(click on home currency and change it to ZAR)
 
I emailed Nintendo America and begged them to give me the rights. Last mail I got they said that Europe was responsible for Africa and that they had forwarded my mail to them. Have not heard anything since. Will be writing directly to Nintendo Europe. Hopefully they say yes.
 
Hmmm, there'll be local duties as well, but I can't imagine it'll be more than R100 or so.

Oh, and you'll need a few games . . .
 
DVDCrave are supposed to be customs friendly. They'll put a reduced value on the package. Otherwise you'll pay 14% VAT and maybe a few percent duties.
 
It is a bit daunting at first, but really quite straighforward. I started buying goods from overseas before the web even existed (back in the dark ages).

I haven't really bought CD's locally for almost 7 years, same goes for books and DVD's.
