Check cap dload of each person on network

hello

Relatively new to adsl the problem is that I stay in a comune.Is there a way or program that i can use to see what the dload amount of each user is on the network we use the telkom 5100 router with 4 ports

You'd need to either set up a proxy and measure all the traffic through it - Smoothwall and IPCop come to mind.

Alternatively you could load NetLimiter (I think) on all the machines and hope no one turns it off.

Or - you could simply put your router into bridged mode and everyone could use their own account to access the internet. With pay as you go as little as r70 per gb the extra cost should be negligible.
 
I second bwana - use the router in bridged mode. I also live in a commune and it works perfectly.

I have a Web-Africa local and international prepaid account with Routesentry to split the traffic.
 
I used to calculate bandwidth usage using a proxy server, Ccproxy. It's a small app, under a mb. Only thing is that you'll have to leave your pc (gateway) on so other users to use the net. Ccproxy can't limit the amount for you cap, but it records how much is used by each user. It has each days usage in a seperate file, so I created a simple excel file, then I used to copy the usage into the file and it used to add up the amounts

If you go the proxy route (smoothwall/IPcop/Linux) get a program called ntop. http://www.ntop.org/download.html
It runs on win32 aswell. The amount of info it gives is too numerous to mention here, but it gives stats per IP, per MAC address, per hour, per protocol. you can slice and dice the info in just about any way. Will give the same info per host visited, how long it was visited. etc. etc. ... :D

Pros - Will definately give you exactly what you require.
Cons - Not too easy to setup, definately not as easy as the option to put your modem in bridged mode.
