what are the common cause of IP renewal prevention?

Thought i should ask this after struggling to get my wireless PC connecting to the router because of IP conflicts. Would the wall or some sort of interference result in a wireless PC not able to renew it's own IP address on a DHCP server/router? What are the common cause of a PC failing to renew it's IP resulting to IP conflicts...?
 
If you move the failing workstation to within sight of the router, are you able to renew its IP address?

Otherwise, first releasing, then renewing the IP might work.

In Windows, open a command-prompt window by going Start - Run - cmd (and enter)

type in ipconfig /release at the prompt, and wait for control to be returned to you.

Then type in ipconfig /renew at the prompt, and check that it is an valid IP address.

Oh, and disable any firewalls to verify that it's not firewalls giving you grief...

tried this before with no success. Thing is you can't renew IP if there's no connection, which is where my problem seem to be...

I decided to opt for Netgear wireless dongle instead of the Intel PRO/wireless card which came with the PC. By this i allow Netgear software (comes with the dongle) to manager the connections, which tends out better. And its easier to re-position the dongle than moving the PC or router. Not sure if Intel PRO/wireless 2915ABG has a software to manage connections as oppose to allowing windows to mange it...

Just thought of something - is the router and wifi card sharing the same network protocol or settings? (except for the tcp/ip adresses)
