After playing Far Cry & HL2 I found Halo be quite monotonous and uninviting. Did it get better in the sequel is the high amount of admiration just due to it being the first pretty FPS on a console? Could someone explain this to me, a PC gamer?
Halo 2: Great storyline. Awesome graphics (for xbox 1). Really great music / sound / voice acting. The control mechanism is very intuitive. Multiplayer support is amazing, and (apparently) very fun, although I don't really like multiplayer FPS.
Having played Far Cry and Half Life 2 to completion, I honestly preferred the pace, immersion and story of Halo's single player campaign.
Halo 2 is a very very good game. Certainly one of the best titles I've ever played.

Would Halo 2 work on a 360?

I assume you're talking about Halo on the PC?
The things that made Halo 1 such a revelation in it's day are things we've come to take for granted today, seeing as it was 2-3 years after the Xbox launch. Things like limited load out (ie only two weapons at a time), the "recharging health", vehicles in FPS and not to be underestimated - Chat, to name a few. That's what made it such a revelation and success, not only for console gamers.
Frankly I agree, when I played it on PC I was also "meh". 2/3 years in the gaming industry is massive. It's kind of like looking at original doom today and going "What's so great about that, Doom 3 is so much better".

I played it on the 360.
Yeah Doob, I also was underwhelmed when I played H1 on PC many years back. I played for like 10 minutes and gave up, disappointed.
Nevertheless, H2 on my 360 was wonder****ingful.

It's well worth getting it.

I managed or organise a copy for my 360, I can't get out the darn dock ;) I find I get nauseas in crapped FPS spaces. And after playing Gears first it was a bit underwhelming ;)
Is it better online? Which night do you guys play?

What are you trying to say? This game brought those things to the genre?
That's exactly what he's trying to say.

Thanks, yeah sorry, my editing she not so good today :p
Halo introduced loads of things to the FPS genre that we take for granted today.
From a player perspective it's also regarded as the first FPS on a console that was as fun to play as on a PC, with the integrated Live support, it was just "Wow!".

I remember playing Halo on the PC and finishing it. It was a fun game but did get repetitive. Like the other guys have said the reason it never took off on the PC is that it was only ported 2/3 years after it came out on the Xbox.

Lol, all things PC gamers had been taking for granted for years :D
As much as I try to get into my ever increasing collection of 360 games its amazing how many times I just come back to Halo 2 and play some ranked games...Ive played FPS on the pc but I prefer the slower pace of Halo 2...instead over running in and seeing who can click the mouse the fastest and the most accurately...I have seen some people do unbelievable things in halo 2(i dont mean hacks)...Ive seen people get shot from behind and in combinations of jumping, using cover and strafeing they have destroyed multiple targets...I may just be an ignorant fanboi but I have yet to find something on the same level gameplay wise....I hope and pray halo 3 lives up to its name...and the matchmaking multiplayer aspect is as cool as in Halo 2.

To the contrary! Halo introduced those idea's across the board, before PC, which is what made it so revolutionary, and why 15 million FPS fans ran out and bought the xbox purely for Halo rather than just shrugging it of as an FPS on a console.
By the time halo had made it to PC those features were common place, which is why Halo on the PC seemed so lacklustre.

Doom, the original, is still superior to the later games.
I just found Halo boring. Like the later Doom games.

Err... Halo 1 was released in November, 2004 (according to GameSpot)
I'm pretty sure there have been others (PC FPS players some help here) but Battlefield 1942 came out more than 2 years before that and it featured:
Vehicles in a FPS
Limited payload
and chat.
Halo 2 was November '04
Halo 1 was in '01 IIR.

Well, it would enhance your Halo 3 experience, but I wouldn't say you have to play it first. Yes it will run on your 360.

Eeek, I stand corrected. It was November 2001, I'll give it credit where it's due it was probably the first to have vehicles & limited payload then :D (in a FPS atleast)

I'm currently playing Halo 2 on my Xbox 360 at the moment. It's frikken awesome. I was a little bored in the beginning, but now it's awesome.
I finished Halo 1 on PC years back. I enjoyed that.

I think one of the better aspects of Halo 2 and the forthcoming Halo 3 is the robust COOP support with up to 4 players on the same xbox unit. That even applies when playing online in versus matches! Same features can be found in Call of Duty 2 & 3 btw.
If such methods are viable on a puny PIII-750Mhz that the original Xbox had why are our supa-dupa PCs slacking in this? Lazy programming comes to mind.

Is that 4 people on one screen?
u need a moerse tv for 4 on one box....
I play 4 up on my 32" LCD and it's fine... so you don't really need a huge screen.
