Selling my Old Faithful - price advice...

The time has come for an upgrade and I am contemplating selling my old trusty machine.

Note to mods - this is not an ad that should be in the classifieds, I am trying to ascertain if it would be worth my while selling this or not----

This is what it is

AMD 2500+
Chaintech Mobo, 4 x DDR400, onboard sound, 4 x USB
1GB DDR400 RAM
128MB MSI 9250 GFX card with TV-out
20GB Seagate HDD
17" CRT Monitor
Mouse
Cd Writer
Black Case
350W PSU

Edit: Almost all the parts are around 3 years old.

What do you guys think I could reasonably ask for that? I have a friend, who is not very computer-orientated. She needs a cheap one that will be good for watching series and writing essays. I don't want to rip her off. What do you think would be a fair price, or would I be better hanging on to it?

That is kinda what I had in mind as well ...Not worth hanging onto if it'll just sit and gather dust I guess...
 
Forgot to mention that most of the parts are 3 years old. Some are newer, like the GFX card and the one RAM module, but ya...
 
CD writer and a 20gig hard drive... 3 years old?... - don't sound right

80gig with a dvd recorder would be believable... but oh well - suppose its possible, but not 3 years old for the HDD..

I was just thinking about that. The cd-writer is definitely 3 years old. Got it with the PC.

The hdd must be older...Just thinking how old :eek: But Seagate's do last...;)

LOL - yea - you're forgiven :)

shockingly there are still some CD Writers floating around - can't believe they're still not obsolete!.

and to be completely honest, you still get some 40gig HDD's out there but i think they're mostly used for terminal use.

If anything, these are the two things that won't sell the pc, its the rest of the goodies that comes with it that makes your old faithful worth the buy!.
Oh, and if you had 2x1gig DDR400 ram for sale on their own, and the price was worth it second hand, i'd definately buy as i need!.

Indeed. I could make it an 80GB drive but they are worth as much to me as a new one, cos I use all the drives I have lying around here.

Somehow I still do not own a DVD-writer. :o Getting one with the new machine though :)
 
Couple of votes for 1500 max and a couple for 2000. I guess somewhere there is about right.

PSU will be a new one as this one has just died :(
 
Well the HDD is old, I dont think I could find a 20GB HDD even if I tried so ya to be realistic 1500 is the max you should ask for it. Anything more than that is an Easter present.

Hehe. Sure thing. I get where you are coming from. What if I changed the HDD to an 80GB one that is less than a year old? Wouldn't make much difference hey?
 
well - if the machine is worth around R1500 with the 20gig, you can't ask that much more with the 80gig., maybe R150 more. you can get those drives new for around R400 - R500

Sell it with the 20gig and be done with it. - its up to the new owner to splash out and upgrade!
