Norton AntiVirus 2007 does not work with ZoneAlarm!!

I just bought a boxed copy of Norton AntiVirus 2007 (the basic one, without firewall etc.) from Incredible Connection and tried to install it: it doesn't! It refuses to install if you've got ZoneAlarm installed, i.e. you have to physically uninstall ZoneAlarm.

How rich is that!?

And there was no warning on the box or by Incredible Connection. ZoneAlarm is by far the most popular free firewall pi there - you would think that they would at least warn you about this.

I'm going to try to take Norton back to the store, but I think I'm going to be up against their "software can't be returned" policy. Norton have a 60-day money back guarantee, but I see it's only valid in the US and Canada

I have never been impressed with Norton.I tried the new Zone alarm as well...wasn't impressed...

AVG (www.avgfree.com) and ZoneAlarm work well together, and they are both free. Been using that combo for about 4 years with no issues.

AVG uses the free version to promote their corporate products. It typically has updates every day, so it appears they are proactive. The only issue is that each outgoing email has text added to the bottom that states that "this emails was scanned by avg version xxxxx" but it seems this isn't deemed unprofessional (read cheapskate), but rather responsible. So I don't mind.

I've been using ZoneAlarm since 2000 (or was it 2001?) and it works well except for occasionally forgetting settings between reboots. It's probably not the best anymore, but I hate changing things that work. Anyway a personal firewall has limited stuff it needs to do, so as long as it does them well, I'm happy.

Since Symantec bought Norton many, many years ago it's been bloated and fussy. Many issues seem to trace to Norton. No thanks!

You don't want to know this now ... but do not buy any Norton products (except Ghost. That's still OK).
