Hi Guys,

Out of your experience, when is the best date to cancel a Telkom ADSL account with TelkomInternet?

I don't want to pay for 3GB of usage, and then cancel it on the wrong date (e.g. today - 2 April) and then loose out on the rest of my usage!

Should I cancel it on the 20th of the month to fall in line with their billing cycle? or should I cancel it on the 30th of the month for month-end???

Any help would be great!!!
Thanks!!!

In my opinion, the best day to cancel an ADSL account is the day when you get capped. So, use the account like crazy and then, once you are capped (which should be at about 16GB for the beginning of the month), phone Telkom and ask them to cancel it.

If you aren't such a big downloader, just be sure to cancel the account on or before the 30th so that they don't charge you for another month's usage.

And what about if you are NOT a heavy user, and you simply want to ride out the account for as long as you can, without being billed for another month, and without loosing out on too much bandwidth?!?!

If your gonna Cancel ADSL. rather cancel your whole phoneline.

Or else your gonna pay pay pay....

Apparently downgrading to normal phone line costs R250+- (this happend to a friend of mine)

@Napalm: Thanks for your reply, but according to my post, I only want to cancel my TelkomInternet ISP ADSL account.

Why would I have to pay pay pay????

I have 7 ADSL accounts. 1 phone line. I only want to cancel 2 accounts. Not the phone line. I still want ADSL.

Cancel it the day before you get billed for it. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to cancel it. Phone them with your phone number/account number and ID number and they cancel it immediately.

Can you still authenticate until the 1st?

I cancelled a WebAfrica Local Only account on the 21st or 26th cant remember, and I could still logon until 1AM on the 1st of April after which the account was disabled.

Okay, so here is what I have managed to find out from TelkomInternet:

I should cancel my accounts on the 21st. The invoice runs from the 22nd to the 21st, so if I cancel then it will not run over into the next period.

The only problem is that your account will END on that date, even if you still have bandwidth left over.

So, I am going to cancel on the 30th, so that I can use the FULL bandwidth on the accounts.

--> The only problem: You will be charged Pro Rata for those 10/11 days on your next account.

I figure that I will therefore cancel on the 30th. I don't care about a pro rata billing, and want all of the bandwidth.

(For future reference!!!)

Pro rata? That's total bull, sounds to me like they think you want to cancel your line, not your account. There is no such thing as pro rata billing when it comes to bandwidth, you pay for 30 days or 3GB.

Rape the account, then cancel it. Get a 1GB prepaid account from WA (R70) to get you through the rest of the month. Then switch to another monthly account permanently. If you ever need an emergency account the 1GB prepaid will be there for you.
