iBurst launches voice service

It probably uses less bandwidth or something. But yes, I agree. What's the point exactly? It's not like everyone will just quit using Skype.

Compared to using a traditional fixed line phone, iCall subscribers will save 17% on calls to South African cellphones, 15% on national calls and in excess of 70% to many international destinations.

According to this, Skype is still much cheaper. I frequently make calls to the USA for 2c ($) a minute. That's about 14c in South african Rand.

I haven't run the numbers but is there as much as a 15-17% saving on Skype on national calls?

More of iBurst trying to retain customers by, once again doing it arse about face. These clowns are funny...

That's dirt cheap. Never actually used Skype, how does it work for you? Any delays?

It usually runs fine. Seldom I will experience a 2 second delay or so. I guess it depends on how far the other person is away from you. Generally my Skype experience with iBurst is a positive one. I've cancelled my landline and my PC has basically become my phone. Trust me, you save LOADS on calls, anywhere in the world. :)

I use Voipbuster instead of Skype (works roughly the same). Cheap and perfect for overseas and local long-distance. However, it is practically useless when calling a SA cellphone number.

Anyone tested the iBust offering to a cellphone?

I use Skype as my primary phone, no issues and good clarity, provided my tower is in working order, currently not - so it's back to Telkom.

Calls to cellphones are expensive though, no thanks to Vodacom, MTN and Cell C!

they can't even run the data part of the networkproperly, how the hell can they run a voip system
