As at Sun, 8 Apr 2007 06:12:38 my bandwidth usage report was as follows.

Purchased: 0GB
Uploaded: 19.68MB
Downloaded: 357.43MB
Combined Total: 377.12MB
Carried Over: 0.00MB
Remaining: 3,122.88MB

I've just manually checked the iBurst site for my usage for the day and it's saying I only have 979mb free.

Now my PC has been on all day but I definately haven't been using it except for some downloading tonight.

I use NetLimiter 2 Pro and it's reporting that I've only used about 100mb today from 8:45am which was when I turned on the PC.

What the hell is going on here? do they think I don't know my browsing habits? do they think that I don't know what my PC does? Is their bandwidth measuring software screwed?

It might not be working properly but it certainly won't be 2GB out, best start looking for "leaks" such as spyware and software updates, or if you are on a wireless router and did not set password and other protection to other than default it could even be your neighbor that "sucked" up the 2GB.

When last did you disconnect from the connection? Remember, the bandwidth report only updates on disconnects

I'm pretty sure that no neighbor has sucked up my bandwidth...I'm very conciencious of security...so i highly doubt it was that.

You telling me that their email depend on if I disconnect or not? It shouldn't be. Regardless I disconnect each evening

Yes thats what he is telling you, and it's a fact that your bw report will remain the same until you disconnect, then and only then is it updated.

Their e-mail not per say, but the actual content of their bandwidth report is dependent on the disconnect from the network. This is a known fact (albeit stupid) ... search the forums, you'll find countless references to this issue

But if as you say you disconnect everyday, then it is not the email that is the issue. Maybe ask them to provide with a report of the addesses you visited over the period in dispute. And how much bandwidth was used at each address.

And how much bandwidth was used at each address.

Not sure if this is possible, dont you need a court order?

I managed to extract this from their website under the FAQ

"This consumption is session based and is only reflected on the bandwidth monitor once a session is closed, meaning that if the session lasts over several days it will only be reflected on the bandwidth consumption monitor on the day the session is disconnected.

E-mails reports are not realtime

Furthermore, once the consumption quota has been reached we allow for a small amount of grace usage before throttling a connection. Please note that traffic generated unbeknown to subscribers such as spyware and virus traffic will be accumulated towards subscribers bandwidth consumption.

How small is the grace period?

It is advised that appropriate measures (such as antivirus, firewalls etc) are used to ensure that your systems are securely maintained.

That is why they say a security suite

To correlate traffic consumption with the monitors available, it will be useful to use a session based monitor such as Magitime,:D which is freely downloadable on the Internet. "

Now I have faith in their b/w monitor

you must have used up 2gigs over the last 10 days and only disconnected your connection now...

good luck trying to fight for your mia bandwidth...

p.s you still failed to mention that you have set a username and effective password to prevent users from using your bandwidth via your wireless router, using admin, 12345 is not a good password

Its possible that I used the 2gig in the last 10 days, but I doubt it. That is double what I would use in that period on average, and most of the time I'm pretty conservative for the first half of the month then up my browsing/downloading over the 2nd half.

I'm not even going to bother fighting them. Their helpdesk is manned by idiots and their accounting dept is no better.

As for my router security. I did say that my connection is secure.
The router SSID is not discoverable, and even if it were, the SSID is not left at default, and the admin username and password are also not std, in fact the password is not a word from any dictionary, includes non-aphabetic characters and case changes. I also monitor on a daily basis what connections have been made to the router. So unless my cat is surfing kitty porn when I'm at work, I highly doubt I have neighbors stealing my bandwidth.

Have you tried asking them if they are able to provide you with details of how your bandwidth was used?

You can also check your router logs, will show the IP addresses used to conect an what sites or IP's were connected to.

So you should easily be able to see if the abuse was on your wireless network.. if your router has this feature of course.

Hi there i don't think this will help but i have been using my internet as usual, i didn't download anything big and didn't do any software updates, it is now the 11 April and i don't have any bandwidth left  what makes it worse is that iBurst added an extra 500megs to my account and that did not seem to help at all. this could be a conspiracy or something  i will call them tomorrow and and see if they can provide me with a detailed usage report.
It all just seems a bit odd.

Yeah, a conspiracy.
Like automatic update enabled on windows and all anti-virus and anti-spyware, not to mention the spyware and malware you got from surfing some dodgy sites.
Nooooo!
Must be a conspiracy!
