BARGAIN! Samsung 32" LCD TV R7999

Well, a Mecer 32" is only R5999. Might help out your pocket a bit

Meh, I went to Makro Springfield, they've sold 18 units since yesterday and the only one they had left was the demo model (which I'm pretty sure is the same one thats been there since Samsung released the 32" LCD) so I decided against making the dive. Helluva good deal though. A six grand saving.

The panel contrast ratio is NOT 5000:1 - there are no LCD panels on the market with that kind of cr. The 5000:1 is a "dynamic" contrast ratio, i.e. the TV adjusts the backlight intensity down in dark scenes in order to improve blacks. However you will never get a static scene with 5000:1 contrast. It's marketing bullsh!t.

FYI: Sony uses the exact same panel in it's TVs... and they're quoted at 1300:1

I'd rather take what they say on the Samsung site ;)
 
Thanks arf, didn't know about the dynamic ratio thing. I did a bit of research and it seems that posting this number is common practice of LCD manufacturers so I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung has done the same.
 
Marketing bullsh!t is confusing the consumer,the same when they came out with HD Ready and HDTV etc.But I'll read up more about the contrast ratio issue and get back to you.Arf999 where are you getting all this info from,post the facts and a link to prove it.

You guys reckon black levels on an LCD can ever compare to a plasma?

That's the most offputting thing ever with LCD monitors :/

arf is exactly right about the dynamic contrast ratio. The static ratio is much lower and its all just marketing BS, but they are pretty nice panels. What deal was Makro having with a PS3+HDTV? Didn't get a chance to check their site yet. They should seriously have an X360+HDTV deal, thats where the demand is.

You're right... 1300:1 is a damn good panel. That samsung at makro is pro'lly the best deal around atm.
 
Guys for only R6000 you can buy the best 30 LCD monitor around, the HP,
with 2500 by 1600 res, HDCP, and 92% colour gamut (Better than any LCD TV out there). :)

In the States, they're selling SHARP AQUOUS LCDs (32 inch) at 1920by1080
res for this price (R8000), and they're not even on special. Shows how much we're ripped off here.
