Please virgin, I'm begging. I really need it. Can anyone tell if they have plans for 3G in the near future?

They will introduce something faster than their current pathetic service. Most probably wireless (Wimax) related.

I see that cellc could be in **** or not.
What they could do is start giving 3g cards for free. network lock it and attract more people

Except then everyone will just get the cards unlocked, not much use if you don't have a 3G network anyway. From recent reports it seems they might be about to go bankrupt anyway so I doubt they'll be rolling out 3G anytime soon.

Cellc have made it clear they they will be targeting the lower end of the market , so i can assum there will be no 3g/hsdpa for virgin.

Have you tried roaming on Vodacoms website?

It works perfecty. I'm in Brackenfell, Cape Town. I get very good HSDPA speeds when I roam on Vodacoms network.

To tell the truth, I get better speeds with VM roaming on Vodacoms network than I get with MTN or Vodacom on their own networks.

Piesang i'm in Sea Point and i'm roaming on Vodacom right now and there is no difference in the speed, perhaps it could be my phone, i have a samsung D 900, i knew i should have stuck with Nokia lol

As far as I know the D900 only support up to edge (2.5G), and vodacom doesn't go into that much, it seems to me they focus more on HSDPA. In my Area there isn't 3G or HSDPA, but if VC upgrade their tower here, I'll be the first here to buy a 3G phone. Even if I could get edge here, I will be happier, but I'm on the edge of edge coverage.

Is CellC not in finance difficulty, and is Virgin not buying then out????????

First 128K 33343 msecs: Download speed = 3931 Bytes per sec, Approx = 33K bits per sec
Second 128K 29297 msecs: Download speed = 4474 Bytes per sec, Approx = 37K bits per sec
Third 128K 29344 msecs: Download speed = 4467 Bytes per sec, Approx = 37K bits per sec
Fourth 128K 29406 msecs: Download speed = 4457 Bytes per sec, Approx = 37K bits per sec

a lot of people went to mtn and vc. So we will see the increase in speed every day.
:)
just piesang me and gti left

Maybe one of these days we will have the VM network for ourselves.:D :p

We are the only ones that is still hanging on a supporting VM.

That's a rumour GTi i read about that on Hellkom two weeks ago, i tried to find the post today without any luck. But with 2.5 million customers how can they be in trouble? Maybe they should have done what Virgin did when they launched instead of getting into bed with VC and MTN. Eventually found the post GTi:-)

Cell C won't be a Virgin co.

BY RODNEY WEIDEMANN, ITWEB TELECOMS EDITOR

[Johannesburg, 4 March 2005] - Mobile operator Cell C has dismissed media reports emanating from the Middle East that suggest the company is the target of a takeover by Virgin Mobile.

It is widely known that Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Mobile has been looking into the possibility of moving into the SA market, but Cell C claims that while it has engaged in talks with Virgin Mobile, these have been “about potential mutual business opportunities and co-operation in the local telecoms sector”, according to a company statement.

Cell C has sent a letter to the publication that made the allegations, Middle East & Africa Wireless Analyst, claiming “the article makes numerous false statements about Cell C and Virgin”.

“Contrary to the statement made in your article of a ‘partial or complete buyout of Cell C by Virgin Mobile', there are no talks between the companies on this subject,” continues the statement.

Thanx Firefly550 for the link, that put my mind to rest. I think Richard must pump some more money into the VM network and improve the internet dept. But old Richard is opening more and more of his networks all over the world. I think he must first perfect something before expanding.Guess money talks.
