Microsoft admit to flaws in the Xbox 360

Any more details? Which drive is it?

I'll cut MS a little bit of slack here, you're 100% right, it's a commodity product, they went to an OEM to supply the device, namely Samsung and Toshiba. the error is theirs. It's like Sony's responsible for the battery failure in well almost every brand of notebook out there.

if your blog adds value to the original article, then by all means go ahead, but watching the gaming threads here it seems to be you are a justifiable traffic whore.

dont flame out now and go ballistic, we are all trying to earn a living, but i click this link, which sends me to your blog, only to find the actual stuff is somewhere else, and when new news come about, you quickly post a blog thingy, then dump a link on myadsl.

If you hadn't noticed I actually earn squat from the site at the moment. I do it so that I can have a central place to keep all the gaming news that I find interesting.

Why what is wrong with it? It's not like I don't give credit where credit is due?
The idea is that all next gen console news which in some way relates to South Africa or that I think is cool is now kept in one place. Works for me... You are more than welcome to avoid clicking the link :D
 
geez man...give the guy a break. He's trying to centralise articles so we may refer to and u give give the talk like u his dad...At least he isn't plagiarising it and also adds his own views...That's what blogs are for.

anyways took a while for MS to admit to the stuff up. Shouldn't have had this problem initially and looks like it's a bit late to admit to it. They won't be replacing consoles then hopefully they'll start replacing every single disc that the console stuff up. Paying R600 for a game and then get it scratched isn't funny.
 
Weird... its my 2nd X360 and to be honest i never had any disks scratched out of my gaming collection.

I think some aspects of the X360 components are kinda out of MS' reach seeing they have swapped out the initial drives for Samsung ones?

Yeah I have never had a problem with scratching either. I did have some strange noises last night though but no scratches luckily

The latest DVD drives are BenQ. I am not sure if Toshiba and Samsung still supplying as well though?
 
What if the fault lies on the DVD discs used by some developers? What is the trend of scratched disks btw? Are they constricted to one developer or game by any chance?
 
I would be very suprised if it's the disc but you never know.

I heard of people losing their Gears of War and Project Gotham Racing. Different developers, I don't recall any other game though....

PGR3 seems to come up very often
 
Cool. So how do I figure out which drive I have? (without ripping up the xbox :))
 
Follow the link, you will see the drive trays of each model are different. Eject your tray and see which one you have. I have the Samsung one and it is very quiet....
