East Coast Radio (Durban) has started an online poll which will shown to the eThekwini Municipality in the 20 days that the citizens have the right to speak out about the road name changes, vote at the following address:

Vote to stop these name changes please! :)

Btw in the eThekwini METRO newspaper it is stated that if the name changes go through these are going to be some of the changed names:

West Street = uKhontowesizwe cadre Patrick molaoa Street.
Smith Street = Moses Mabhida, Anton Lembede or Ma Adelaide Thambo Street.

It will be changed no matter what we as citizens do. Look at the Khutsong situation the people are still burning commrade houses and government dont care.

The city of Durban is a slum. The name changes are fitting.

The ANC doesn't give a damn what citizens think ... they have an agenda and they intend to fulfil it.There is huge irony in what they're doing ...

If he hadn't fought, I very much doubt the ANC would exist today (The Nazis had very little time for blacks).

I seen Point Street has also changed?

Is that official?

edit - Is the poll still running, can't find it.

Poll is still there on the main page. Yep, it seems official - it now Mahatma Gandhi, isn't it?

I think the name changing is important but they way they've gone around it, disregarding the local parties icons was a bit insensitive.

Why are the Mods allowing this guy to carry on with his racial slurs?

Stupid gauvamint and their stupid ideas. Why can't they build something themselves and name it, that way they can actually show that they did something constructive in SA as well as actually progress the country. Stupid backwards idiots, gonna run this country into the ground :(

But when something like Point Street is offensive to the majority, theres nothing wrong with renaming it.

maybe it's all about the "points"sticking up in that area .... slums of Durban rename it with pleasure to show off how scummy and slummy the ANC really is ..

"sluring is what you get when you drink to much"

I think he is rolling in has grave. out of all roads to name after him why choose Point road.

Why change names to political names. Make them apolitical (think that is the right word)

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th street/ave/road. It is non-racial, non-sexist, non-political, non-creative. and the miniority can pronounce them.

And they're so easy to find. like paint by numbers
You get 1st, 2nd, 3rd ...16th Avenues in Rosebank, Pakhurst, Linden, Craigall etc. How on earth are you suppose to know which 1st Avenue you are on? That must be one of the dumbest naming methods (second to the one proposed for DBN. I mean how do you name a tennis court after a boxer? )

There are Nth Avenues in Durban too. Off Florida rd. Maybe the name changes would be good in that respect, there are lots of double names in the different provinces.

Easy.
16th Ave, Rosebank.
Even easier than:
Nelson Mandela Drive, Umtata.

Nothing dumb about it.
driving along 16th Avenue, Craigall suddenly you come across another 16th Avenue and this one belongs to Parkhurst
