Is there a trick to getting GOW working across a LAN?

Two of us have our own 360, both boxes are getting assigned the correct IP addresses from the router but we're not seeing each other in either Campaign or Versus mode.

Any ideas?

Apparently so - unless I'm completely misinterpreting things.

Getting a 50m cable Monday if all else fails.

bit off topic, if u got 2 360s with GOW, can 4 players join a lan game with 2 on each console playing split screen?

i doubt u can LAN... only system link or live. I tried, even with both xbox's connected 100% to the router, with DHCP.. we cant. had to go cable to cable.

 of course you can

You can connect as many Xbox and Xbox 360's together as you want. It is a bit more complicated than connecting 2 xboxes together but it is easy enough for anyone to do with this guide. Xbox and Xbox 360 LAN's are setup the same way as computer LAN's. You can even include Xbox 360's and PC's on the same LAN to share your movies, music and pictures with your xbox 360.

Not sure why you are having problems Bwana, check the router is not blocking the port or something like that...

You should be able to play 4 people on 2 boxes fine if my memory serves me right

Thanks GavinMannion - I'll give it a read and see what I can come up with. :)

I sure will - the other guy is busy until tomorrow so there's little I can do until then.

Hey there, i had a similar problem.. eventually we found out that if gears of war was updated via Live then it would not be able to "see" an unpatched version of GoW. Our solution was to get everyone's xbox online and download the update. Perhaps this is where your problem lies?

hi askari... not completely true. I tested with 2 xbox's. at first, didnt work, then we patched both, and worked, when connecting them directly. but this didnt sought out the switch problem... but i will use the advise above.. see what happens

Turns out it didnt like my SMC ADSL router - once I disconnected that and just used the two Airport Expresses then it worked. Unfortunately without an ADSL router we wont be able to play online :o. The strange bit is that we could play online before via the lan.

i dont know much about the lan part of xbox, but is a direct connection really better than a wireless one.

Strange that, I can only imagine your routers firewall is blocking the traffic?

Oh wait didn't I mention that :D

Anyway check www.portforward.com to setup your router for Xbox Live....

Anyway check www.portforward.com to setup your router for Xbox Live....Thanks but it's not that I didnt think of that earlier but the firewall shouldn't have any effect internally. Also by forwarding the ports to one IP you would prevent access by the other xbox. :o

Blasphemy

It's a very strange problem though, what if you disable the firewall when you play on Live? Or just disable it for the IP of the Xboxes?

We can both play live no problem - we just cant play via system link on the lan with the router.

dude, if it worked through a different switch, why not just get a new switch (cheap) and plug it between your xboxes and the router?

Thats what I'm currently doing. Right now each xbox is plugged into a wireless access point. When there is nothing else attached they find each other, when the wireless AP is attached to the router they see the internet but not each other.

The distance from xbox to xbox precludes regular use of a cable hence the wireless APs.
