60 million drug bust at JIA (OR Tambo)

Naidoo said for several months there had not been any attempts to smuggle large quantities of drugs or contraband through the airport.

That they know of anyway.

anyways...at most pharmacies you can buy massive amounts of codeine over the counter...opiates = opium, morphine, heroin, and codeine....which itself is highly addictive ...and very cheap....and probably a large majority of working people are hooked on!

I hereby officially distance myself from any drugs, ...oh yeah....maryjane is a medicine too ...no?

hehehehe

True, btech, I had a friend who was turned away by SANCA cos they reckoned he would die on his withdrawals (barbituates).

Barbiturates and alcohol, the two drugs where the withdrawal symptoms can be fatal.

Only someone really desperate would be trying to get high off the tiny quantity of codeine in over the counter medication. You'll need prescription drugs for that.

He said busts that netted hundreds of millions of rands in drugs between November 2005 and June 2006, had brought a sudden halt to smuggling through the airport.

"It would seem that drug syndicates are once again trying to smuggle drugs through this port of entry and again, without success."
The police and authorities are so funny. They should take this comedy routine on tour.

It is quite sad, these misguided fools probably truly believe they're making a difference. Their whole lives will be wasted on their silly futile attempts to stop drug smuggling. The trade just goes on regardless.

Well tomorrow is a holiday so maybe some of them will sample it ;)

funny when the police do their job they are fools and idiots, when they dont do their job they are fools and idiots?

face it you just not happy with any news be it good or bad.

I agree halicon... if we can't praise the cops when they are successful, why should they feel enthusiastic about doing the job?

Firstly the police do not do their jobs properly. This was probably a tip off. A larger shipment probably got through. Secondly lets follow this case and see if there are any convictions or if the drugs are detroyed or put back on the street just like the whole firearm story. The man in the street (cop) is not the problem it is their superiors like old Jackie Selebi. If you think justice has and will be served then you do not know anything about the country that you are living in. No offence man just the facts.

They do their job better than you according to me. Sure, I don't even know who you are and all that, but the same goes for you - generalization doesn't help. I have some good mates who work hard against the grain to do their job because they believe in what they do.

What the hell has my job got to do with it? I am not in the gvt service? That's a real mature way of answering. Look at what I said, I am not blaming the cop on the street I am blaming the brass. As I said, head in the sand!!

Fair enough, but have you ever commended people in Public service? I mean ever?

Well actually yes. I strongly believe in writing letters to compliment people's good service and do it a number of times. I also will on every occasion pay for cops/paramedics food if they are in uniform in the same restaurant or take away as me. Black or white or Indian or coloured. It makes no difference. I respect the guys on the ground. Have many mates who are cops and paramedics.

You seem to be doing a lot for Public Service.

Why is your sentiment on the forum not consistent with that?

A good tree shall be seen by its fruit.
