Please Please Please start your own ISP!!!!!!!

I, and apparently others, are really having trouble with the local ISP's, and I would support you guys 100% You have always played open with us, and the work you are doing here is appreciated by us all.

Yeah gets my vote as well. rpm if you're really serious about trying to change this industry then you should really consider it.

What we need is a Millionaire willing to lay us a nice big privately run undersea cable independant of gvt .... C'mon Bill, Richard...anyone???!!!!

I can see quite a few problems with regard to this idea. The 1st and most obvious one is that the myadsl.co.za website has it's bandwidth sponsored by a group of ISP's, however please correct me if I'm wrong.

The 2nd is that we all know the profit margin on reselling ADSL accounts. The wholesale prices are pretty much public information which can be found in some of the news items here. The minimal profit margin alone is enough to dissuade any organization from becoming an ISP in South Africa.

The 3rd potential issue I see with this would be a conflict of interest. This forum serves as a popular choice for users, businesses and ISP's to share their views on our current broadband situation. If MyADSL were to become an ISP, I doubt that other ISP's, MyADSL's potential competition, would be willing to still remain active here. I would assume that they would pull out their sponsorship of bandwidth which as one can see, is extremely high - 234 GB for January alone.

As much as I think MyADSL has the right people for the job, I just don't foresee it happening :)

Getting private funding for a new undersea cable is all very well and good, but you still need permission from ICASA and the Doc.

Everybody on the forum must donate R20,000 to rpm. Then we can do it. It's actually possible. :D

In other words, pay for our own ISP?! :p

Imagine that though. A publicly owned ISP. No profit. Simply setup to provide a service for the people, by the people.

There goes the dreaming again

Viva Private ISP, Viva!!!

We can even call it MyPISP

Can you imagine a bunch of us toi toing around shouting that? Lol, it should get someone's attention, not sure who, but it'll be a start
