Does someone come to your house?

I want to get a free modem for "self-installation" :)

Also, what happens if you breach Telkom's "24 Month" deal?

Telkom contracts = Bad
i think you have to go to a your local telkom shop and you have to set it up yourself "self-installation"

I just called to convert my Closer 5 to a doBroandband 3. I was on month-to month on Closer and did the same on doBroadband 3. I will pay the pro-rata rate for 2/3 days on Closer 5 and the balance of the month a pro-rata on doBroadband 3.

Great stuff Jongi. Do you still pay the R100 line rental if you're on a Do package? And do you get another FREE modem?

The R100 I pay. I will phone tomorrow to find out if I am eligible for another modem. Doubt it though.

And I am happily splitting international through the TelkomInternet account and local through my OpenWeb local only account.

Great - I thought it was far fetched to think they wouldn't allow other ISPs on Do packages. Think I might switch pretty soon myself :)

Maybe the initial question regarding this was not well-posed. The "not other ISPs" issue relates to *bundling* of the ISP service with Do packages, not whether it is technically feasible to use a different account on the line.

Went to a Telkom shop and asked about the modem. Apparently no decision has been taken yet. I'll keep a tab on issues.

i took the self installation option with 24 months contract and free router.
well i had to go fetch my adsl router from my local telkom branch.
then when telkom called me and said your line is ready i just set up router there u go.that is what happens with the self installation.
to think u pay a telkom guy R400 to install a router connecting a few cables.:eek:No one comes to your house.unless u have problems

This is friendly warning the router i got from telkom was crap.I got disconnected all the time and sometime it didn't even connect i 1st thought
it was my line but telkom tested it more then once and told me my line is fine.
then one day i got so mad:mad: i went and bought me a new router D-link never had problems with my adsl again.

which router did you get? tbh though the mega 100wr is clearly not the best router it hasn't dropped at all for me.

I got the Marconi Premium Combo on SIO - works great so far.

My friends parents has one of those Marconi Premium Combo and i noticed they make a funny buzzing noise when they get hot
what the ? LOL

I had a 384dsl, and applied for the 4Mb DoBroadband last week Wednesday. They don't send anybody about, they just upgrade your line. Apparantly if you have an existing contract, it must be at least 18 months old before you can upgrade.

The upgrade was done on Friday. I was quite surprised - only two days :)
I connected on Friday night without any problems...

OK, dunno if I'm right, but : Is it only possible to get doInternet with a contract?

I already have a 384kbps line with a 3GB TelkomInternet account, seems like a good option to upgrade to do3, but I'm not signing anything....

They called me about 2 hours before the activation, and the lady said to me because my existing contract was more than 18 months old, I don't have to sign a new one.

Don't really know if it makes sense. So my contract expires in a few months time.... and according to them its not necessary to sign a new one.

"Apparantly if you have an existing contract, it must be at least 18 months old before you can upgrade"

Another reason not to get a contract - This warning should be in flashing lights on every myadsl page :)
