While probably not on the scale of the 360, (using 3 year old tech has it's advantages ;) ) the PS3 is experiencing some failures:

So importers beware.

That is the most liberal use of the word "probably" I've ever seen :D

The fact that even the new 'elite' Xbox 360 are still suffering from rings of death worries me about MS's lack of interest in fixing problems.

I have heard the rumours of the ring of death on the elite but I have only seen real reports on horrible sounds from teh Elite... much better :p...

Sony is no different.

I noticed that as well. Some of the fanboys were raving about how good Sony service is, but the process is identical to the MS one. Go figure.

What I did notice though is that you lose your HD data (obviously because it's internal), whereas with the 360 at least you can hang onto your drive, although there's the annoying bit that you need to be connected to live if they give you a different unit. (solved now I guess)

Sony also has a history of pretending there is nothing wrong with their products. Sometimes they quietly fix the problem in a new revision, but never admit there was a problem. Microsoft had a deserved reputation for doing the same.

Isn't one the selling points that you can install any 2.5" drive in the PS3? There is no way I'd send one in with the hard drive. Can you move your PS3 data from drive to drive or put a drive from one unit into another unit?

lol... it's funny the ps3 is pretty much bullet proof, but the ps2 had loads of problems, and the slim line just over heated after 5 min of play time

lol... any piece of hardware fails either by sheer bad luck, faulty components or user abuse. I wont even mention how many times I had to replace PC parts due to various problems in my PC gaming time. ;)

Its just for the price you pay you EXPECT a more solid product from Sony in the end. Like somebody posted elsewhere, for less than R6.5k you can get a Premium X360 + a spare X360 Core if you really wanted too.

I thought that the Xbox would have way more than that since it's been sold for longer than the PS3.

There's no officially sanctioned way of transfer data between Hard drives, and I don't know if they'll support the device if you don't send in the drive. I guess You could put your own in and swap back to the original if you need a repair.

EDIT: Doesn't google fight look at the number of times a term has been recently searched for? Or is it a "forever" type thing?
