24 countries had locked up journalists (at 1 Dec 2006)

Journalists who either disappear or are abducted by nonstate entities, including criminal gangs, rebels, or militant groups, are not included on the imprisoned list. Their cases are classified as "missing" or "abducted." Details of these cases are also but the government has refused to provide basic facts about the journalists’ whereabouts, their health, or whether they are still alive available on CPJ's Web site.

Remind me the last time a journalist was jailed in SA?

I seriously can't remember. I do remember that photographer Bennie Gool was harassed by the state for the photo's that he took at the Rashied|Rashard Staggie murder, but that didn't end in him being jailed.

Yes, the proposed bill is scary, but it ain't gonna pass the way it is now, and despite disguntled statements by all sorts of people blaming the media for all sorts of things, SA has a pretty good record (since 1994) in this respect.
