Since March 16, more than 100 brands of pet food have been recalled because they were contaminated with melamine. An unknown number of dogs and cats have been sickened or died after eating pet food tainted with the chemical, which contaminated wheat gluten in the food imported from China.

Investigators found last week that about 5 percent of feed used at some smaller chicken production operations came from pet food tainted with melamine, Williams said. Larger manufacturers are unlikely to have exposed their animals to large amounts of the tainted pet products because they usually use special feed, he said.

Surely this contamination would have killed the chickens as well?
 
The problem is we are the alpha species, on the apex of the food piramid, so any stuff the chickens get in concentrates in a bigger amount in us. If we ate dogs it woudl be a problem already for us...
 
Again, the food industry taking advantage to make more money. They should NOT have been feeding dog food to chickens.
 
Surely the point is that no food should have had melamine added to it. Period?

Time we sanctioned China. I dont know, maybe build a wall around them?

But on a more serious note. If melamine is a banned substance, why don't they test for it? Or do they and they just don't pick it up?

It is added to make the protein content in the wheat gluten appear higher. Fscking food science gone the Frankenstein way again.:mad:
I will never knowingly buy Chinese food again.
