Well I'm gonna get do1 from Telkom and I gotta choose between a USB modem or a WiFi one. I've never had experience with broadband hardware before so which one is better?

Do not get a USB ADSL modem, amke sure you get an ethernet modem - the wifi modem [router] should be ethernet.Well I'm gonna get do1 from Telkom and I gotta choose between a USB modem or a WiFi one. I've never had experience with broadband hardware before so which one is better?
No, the WiFi one can also be always connected or you can set it to connect when there is a data request to it (from a started up computer), if it disconnects after a certain time of non activity...
Windows only, one PC (except if you want to go whole internet connection sharing route).
WiFi one is ethernet and much more useful...
Why are you taking the Telkom modem, is it free with 2 year contract?
As mentioned by ssb, the USB modem will give you problems if you ever want to use it attached to a Linux box, whereas ethernet modems|routers do not need special drivers to work with either Linux or Windoze. Also, the wifi router is a much better choice - even if you don't have a notebook|pda with wifi right now, you might get one in the future, and the wifi router will allow you to share the ADSL connection wirelessly to several rooms.I love the fast replies on this forum. Thanks ic..
Reason to not get the USB one?
Take the self-install option, contract == evil. You get the modem free on contract or if you take the selfinstall...
