President Thabo Mbeki will Thursday, May 10, be admitted to the rank of Knight of the most venerable Order of St John at a rededication ceremony to be held in Cape Town. The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John is an important form of recognition boasting a rich history and tradition.

The President’s investiture by the Duke of Gloucester will take place in Cape Town.

Given the focus placed by the international family of the Order of St John on the betterment of living conditions of poor and disadvantaged communities, the selection of President Mbeki for this high honour points to the pivotal role he has played in transforming people’s lives both in South Africa and on the African continent.

As part of the honour, President Mbeki will receive the Cross whose four arms signify prudence, temperance, justice and fortitude.

I guess all the riots about service delivery are what helped the Order decide.

Mbeki doesn't spend enough time in this country to have played any role in helping the poor, never mind a pivotal role

He's only being knighted by some obscure order of st john. Probably some anal organisation looking to currie favour with the government.

Are you sure it is the 10th?? His chopper just landed near the Vineyard Hotel, where the St John people are having a function.

I guess you could say that... she's the head of everything in the UK

So the Chimney Sweeps Guild of London could have knighted him and it would probably mean the same
