Dept won’t fund 'white' charity

THE colour of the hand that feeds the hungry mouth does matter.


That is one conclusion after the KZN Department of Welfare (DoW) refused to fund the Underberg Aids orphan charity Clouds of Hope (CoH) because the committee is not “transformed”.

The committee comprises of volunteers who all have other jobs and do not work at the project. The vice chairman is a black man.

He said a month ago he received a phone call from the DoW district manager, a miss Luthuli, saying that “we had not transformed our CoH committee and were no longer eligible for funding”.

The following questions were posed to the Department of Welfare:

1. What are the reasons for the Department of Welfare’s refusal to continue funding for the Clouds of Hope Outreach Feeding Programme, chaired by Dr Lesley Burgess Pitt?

2. Dr Pitt was told that his “committee was not transformed” and that therefore the DoW has refused to fund them. Is this true? Does it really matter what colour the hand is that feeds the hungry mouth?

3. All recipients of food and money in the project are black and the volunteers on the Clouds of Hope committee are predominantly white. Does the DoW view “transformation” of a committee or the feeding of vulnerable children as a more important issue? What are your department’s views

Vilakazi refused to speak to The Witness. After numerous attempts to elicit a response, her secretary repeatedly said “she’s working on it” and confirmed that they had received the questions via e-mail.

The Witness contacted Vilakazi two weeks ago, but she said she is “not dealing with this matter” and referred it to the head of the department, Thabane Zulu. Zulu was not available to comment as he is in hospital after a car accident.

Well do you give money to black, colored or indian beggars (OK take out the indian beggars - I must say I haven't ever seen one)

If you do, why?
 
If you are not black, you may not give a black begger something.
 
sigh, where else have I seen this attitude? Was it not Robber Mugabe who refused aid from "white" countries?

when a department ducks and dives for two weeks, then I feel I am entitled to leap and bound to any conclusions I wish.

There are some indian beggar, they normally in the indian areas, I do give them food and money. I give some black guys at the robots. But I never give money to white beggars not sure why I just dont... JHB or the PTA ones.

Not beggers or bousies. Besides that, i doubt that all the orphans are white.. so how can they deny giving money ??

The moneys aren't going to the committee comprises since they are "volunteers" , and remember folks.... this is a charity not a Profit scheme. Its a charity like all others

True - but while you're concluding that they're ducking and diving I'm concluding that they're just plain old-fashioned incompetent. We might both be right :o

White beggars are being rightfully punished for war crimes they have commited during apartheid, and giving them something would defy the whole idea of the New South Africa - punishing whites.

So they are not going to get 50c from me either, i dont support war criminals.

This will eventually be played down by the ANC.

/me waits for the commrade brigade to start with the excuse its apartheids fault etc..remember the ANC cant be racist they are black :sick:

So even if the kids are black but the commitee is white the government wont fund it ? And yesterday a commrade on the forum posted how the white people always try and sabotage the government. Seems like the government doesnt need any help from us whites.

But you are missing the point bru. The 'white beggars' are begging on behalf of the black orphans.
This must be one of the most absurd stories I've heard in long time.
