Johannesburg - An organised crime syndicate intent on slowing down the country's economic growth was behind the theft of cable, the Sunday Independent reported.

National Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi said the theft of power cables, which had resulted in power cuts in many areas, was an organised plot to "pit communities against the authorities".

Selebi was speaking during a meeting with the National Council of Provinces' select committee on security and constitutional affairs on Friday.

"I have reached a conclusion that it is highly organised and is not only organised but also has got certain goals including economic ones," the Sunday newspaper reported him saying.

Selebi said Germiston, east of Johannesburg, had the highest incidence of cable theft.

He said the recent power outage in Bedfordview - which lasted three days - had resulted in direct and consequential damage claims against the Ekurhuleni Metro municipality.

"This means that money that should have gone towards building a school is paying for the criminal activities of this well-organised criminal grouping.

"We will look at it in that sense because I think it is bigger than individuals stealing cable wire for the sake of stealing," he said.

X-Files season 11 will be out soon, based on South-African stories and conspiracies.

Why am i not suprised. As soon as something goes wrong it's 'a plot against government'. It's like the anc always playing the race card.

What ever happened to the

"damaged by CCTV installations"

"isolated incident"

etc?

Surely, lord have mercy, if the cables are stolen you can see that? You do not claim it is damaged by a cctv camera installation?

You get lies, stupid lies, and SA guavamint lies...

What amazes me, is that the government simply assumes we will swallow their bull, without a question being raised.

Bring out the proof (if you have it), open it to public scrutiny, and appoint reputable people to investigate it - again with transparency.

Then, perhaps, you will be believed.

Oh, and stop manufacturing stories at the time (CCTV cams etc), that then enables you to make a bigger whopper later (sabotage). ;)

But that's exactly what happens. No matter how much they screw up, they remain the populace choice. The "whatever they do it will never be as bad as the previous regime" attitude is what it is.

Transparency is not in the interest of the people making the big money at the top. The only people not believing the government are the people not actually mesmerised by their "saviour" status.

It's called spin and governments all over the world are very good at it. In South Africa, however, they are world champions - because their supporters buy it no questions asked - every time.

Only ANC supporters need to be fooled by this kind of propaganda.

It's the same as the Nat's SWART GEVAAR and RED UNDER EVERY BED

Same old circus is in town, just the clowns tha have changed

All these guys are frikken nuts. It's the syphilis affecting their minds.

So edc you don't believe your brothers are so bad they could do something like this to make the Government ineffective?

Well let me Angelo tell you today unreservedly that they are that bad, you are that bad, you hate the Government that much.

They are capable of doing worse things than this to make our Government and our leaders look bad.

I'm an accountant, if I were to try undermine the guavamint, I would audit them, and trace every single misstatement, no matter how immaterial is it given the chance.

I think the best thing a revolutionary could do is to ignore the guavamint, refrain from giving advice and let the ANC destroy itself. revolutionist, sit back quietly and shush anyone giving sound advice.

Stealing wires, is only to melt copper, to undermine the guavamint, nope, I think it is a classic case of a PR campaign "they are persecuting me so I must be special". Zuma did the same, so does Paris Hilton.

South Africa's obsession with race will be its downfall.

The mere fact that you believe that there are saboteurs out to cut power supplies in an attempt to undermine the government lends to the naivety of ANC government supporters. It's ridiculous beyond belief that seemingly intelligent people believe the lies their governments dish out constantly, despite overwhelming non delivery of the evidence in such situations. Alec Erwin used this nonsensical gibberish to wonderful effect and so doing handed the ANC an election victory in the Western Cape. Sadly it was not because of the intelligence of the minister, but rather due to the stupidity of the voters.

It is indeed sad that the only thing that you use as a measure for good or bad is black and white. I pity you. Rinse. Repeat. I pity you.

" Johannesburg - An organised crime syndicate intent on slowing down the country's economic growth "

Guess they are talking about Telkom

If you are ~:
In South-Africa and the rest of the world it means you are a victim, that everyone is picking on you and that it is not your fault if anything goes wrong.

If you are ~:
In South-Africa and the rest of the world it means you should feel guilty for whatever the other race feels a victim of and that you should take responsibility to clean up the mess caused by the failures of the other.

Is that what you meant? It is a PR campaign, "I'm being persecuted so it must mean I'm special", better yet, "it must be edc and the WHITES again!". So power lines are stolen, Angelo concludes race has something to do with it.

I read the article and I did not see race mentioned at all. So Angelo, wth?! Replace '~' with any colour you see fit to bring in to the discussion. It would be best if you use only 1 colour though, since we are all equal.
