I'm just wondering how things are doing with SA broadband - it's been 18 months since I've moved back to the UK.
It's hard to tell, looking at the forum, what the good and bad news is, but generally, it seems the cost is slowly (very slowly) going down.
Over here, not much to report - rather boring to be honest.
I'm on "up to 8mb", but don't get too jealous, I rarely get above 200k and only get that speed 50% of the time. On some large FTP servers, I've got 700k per second, which is fantastic if your downloading Linux distributions... but...
... the exchange in my area is so overloaded, during business hours, it slows down something rotten.
Also, I've noticed speed capping on torrents during certain hours, so I rarely see anything over 40k per second.
Still, broadband here is equivalent to lights and water - so widespread and easy to get, nobody chats about it much.
As for price, well, it's not that cheap - I pay about £30 a month, which in earning terms, is about the same as SA - the only difference is the cap - pretty much unlimited.
In other words, this isn't the "land of milk and honey" for broadband by any means, but it is better than SA and shows that there is hope for SA to reach the same level - after all, until Ofcom stepped in (the equiv of Icasa) - broadband was only for the wealthy.
