eNatis blame game starts

Should get a lot of sympathy here. Then again, government or Telkom... which do we dislike more intensely?
 
What a bunch of idiots. Did they honestly think they'd get uninterupted, unlimited access through telkom??

For 400mil why didn't they have an RF/microwave contingency?

Oh wait, these are the same nobs that underestimated server capacity by 800%
 
I would blame the programmers for this. I do realize that this issue is not related to them directly, but being in South Africa, living here, paying the price of bandwidth and knowing our telecoms situation... even I am forced to work around line failures.

Hell, it REALLY isn't that difficult to build in an "offline" option to at least process people while your lines are down so that when you're back up the system syncs with the central database. Sure it will take you a few days of code and a few tests and bug fixes, but it's well worth it in the end, especially when your copper line gets stolen or something.

Then again, I'm not really clued up on what authentication processes happens in the background and if they really can afford to be offline, but hell, at least be able to process everyone's requests NOW and then let the authorization work itself out and contact those people again whom the authorization failed for (I'm using authorization of a transaction as an example, no idea how it works)

If I'm not mistaken they're even hosting everything overseas and not in South Africa? Plus the fact that since 2001 they never really thought about the technical implications with 2001 hardware running 2007 needs...

Pathetic if you ask me.

I have experience with a toll system which can work offline... and which works just fine with 64k diginet lines... the eNatis system in comparison is a joke.

I hope so too... for 11 years my wife's Citi Golf's license renewal came in the post a month before renewal time (May), I pay, and receive new license in the post before it expires.... now this year we are halfway thru May already, and not even the renewal/payment letter yet :mad: so I can just see the traffic dept's incompetence is gonna get personal :( :mad:
Also still waiting for 'new' car to get licensed.
where shall I join with my torch to burn down ? :D ... no,... not for the traffic offices, then it'l take even longer ... the torches should go to Wayne Minnaar or Mr Minister Jeff :D
Why don't they go join in the counter to help sort out their useless system!

According to a whois lookup it is hosted by bluehost.net - isnt that just indicative of the situation here.

A VERY short-sighted statement. :mad:

Programmers DO NOT develop the business specifications!!! Programmers IMPLEMENT business specifications given to them by business analysts who CLEARLY in this instance don't know their a$$ from their face!

Project and Program managers who managed, and I use that word VERY lightly, the project should have made sure, based on their technical knowledge and what the client requested was indeed delivered.

Those same Project and Program managers are the ones who should have, once again based on their skill sets, made sure that there was a contingecy plan in place AFTER running the new solution in parallel with the legacy system on a remote site for longer that one day!

Project, Program managers and SLOPPY business analysis are SOLEY to blame in this scenario.

It sure would be interesting to see which pnuts ran in those posts and what their credentials are. I sure as hell would never hire them to work for my business!!

Has anyone actually sat and thought about wha the hell is actually going on here? This is actually a damn circus. I cannot believe what makes headline news. Anyone who actually believes that SA has some future is a crack head.
 
6 years to develop THIS! .. the tender was awarded in 2001! - What have the developers been doing if the project was "Pushed out without stress testing". I have done far more complicated projects with even LESS resources in less time.

I think an audit of Tasima will reveal that 400Mill bux has disapeared and the Developers are all students doing their practical during the holidays
