Tokyo for president

Agreed. It'll be great for those of us skilled, employed citizens

However I don't think Tokyo gives much of a toss for anyone but himself.

Viva CAPITALISM!!

That's alright with me. Capitalism is the only system that can get this country out of the current poverty cycle.

But what about all the poor, hard-done-by, unskilled, previously disadvantaged brothers Jozi ??

Think Tokyo will export them?

Capitalism widens the gap between the rich and the poor.... how can that be good for SA? We have one of the world's highest inequality indeces surely socialist policies are the way to go...
Cosatu have not been impressed by Tokyo's sudden ambitions...

I think a healthy mix between socialist and capitalist policies is achievable, and that's probably what he'll work towards. Oh and Cosatu simply want a stooge in office that they can control. They've admited as much.

Edit: That's the only reason they want Zuma in there, cause he doesn't have a spine.

Pure capitalism is bad, as is pure socialism. Finding the correct balance between the two is the key

What do you think the chances are that he could actually become President? He's got my vote!

Tokyo's ambitions are not new. He was seen as a threat by Mbeki when Mandela's time was up. Mbeki shifted out all the potential competitors, including Sexwale. That's why he moved across to business to make money - instead of Mbeki's political route to riches.

I beg to differ. Although I'm no fan of consumerism, materialism and the greed and arrogance it fosters, I just have to look at the socialst/communist states to conclude that the general populations of capitalist countries are better of.

Think of the former USSR vs the States. Think of Cuba vs Singapore. N.Korea vs S.Korea.

Ah, China you say? China's massive economic growth started right after it changed to "Capitalist like" trade and policies.

Communism, in my mind, is a nice idea that in reality leads to dictatorship, inequity and suppression.

Well, jeeze like.

SA dont have any half decent choices for Top Dog now do they. lol@Zuma.

Given that the way the government (Mbeki) runs the country, that is with no clue. Anything or anyone with a business brain surely, couldnt be worse.

I guess Tokyo would give us more hope than what SA has right now

Geriatrix : Take a look at most of Europe. Socialism works well when it is combined with Capitalism. Sweden, Switzerland, France, Luxemburg and even Britain.
