Johannesburg - The South African parliament passed a law on Wednesday allowing the government to promote racial equity in sport.

Criticised by some opposition parties for giving the state too much power of interference, the Sports and Recreation Amendment Bill gives the sports minister the authority to intervene in equity "non-compliance".

It also provides for "the promotion of equity and democracy in sport and recreation" and to correct imbalances left over from sport segregation under the racially oppressive apartheid regime.

Well there goes are weekends of fun, these w@nkers will ruin everything by forcing the most incompetent players into the national sides. Can't wait until someone dies from an injury cos the w@ankers said he must play.
 
Politics are officially part of sport now. So much for the best team.
 
Hopefully we will start seeing white players in soccer now. they have been excluded for far too long :)
 
South Africa will continue to lose World Cups and other important events if they keep sending the most representative team instead of the best team. No other major sports nation does that. If Germany's national soccer team (hypothetically) had to consist of 50% players of one club, then it would be so because those are the best players available, and no other club would even dream of challenging that and demanding equal representation. The South African government seems to think that you can right the wrongs of the past by giving free handouts and forcing people into positions they may not be suitable for. But the truth is that you cannot eradicate differences which have grown over decades in a matter of years. It will probably take another few decades until things get more equal. Ask the Germans, they know that as well.
 
What the Guvament does not seem to understand if you alienate the fans of Rugby/Cricket by forcing loosing teams to go and compete. Viewership will drop, sponsership will drop and the big salaries they seem to want to redistribute won't exist any more

The government doesn't care about cups. All they want is a damn quota. Heaven forbid we start winning Cups with the quota system........

How come the Government doesn't realise that some races of people are better at certain sports than others? Africans are good at soccer and athletics, the Swiss at skiing, the Finns at rallying. It's not racist - its evolutionary facts. But alas, over here we rarely see past the "black or white" of a thing.

There should be at least 3 players of "non colour"(including coloureds, indians and whites) in our soccer team. There must be representation for the whole country :rolleyes:
 
Current squad? we all know in utopia SA all spheres of society should 100% reflect the racial composition of SA. Just don't know how we will get half a indian player into the soccer squad :)

Check it out, alanf. I think you'll find that most of the time, there is.

The 21 -man squad picked against Bolivia had six "non-black" players. link

He means we are not SEEING ENOUGH white players, its too "black", although there were some white players.

The same can be said of the Rugby teams, there too we have seen some (alot) of black players since the early 90's, but that is not good enough for the govt, so they pass a bill to force more black players into the team.

It would only be fair to see the same in the soccer teams.

This is a classic case where the Soccer team is "more equal" than the Rugby team.
 
Unlike some other sports, it doesn't need to be. It seems to just happen, again unlike some other sports.

You saying that black players can't make the rugby and cricket teams on merit?
