Trying to get more voters, maybe? Who would like to bet that more than a few of these "illegals" will have ID's shortly before the next election?
 
I am constantly amazed by mbeki. Just when you think he can't possibly be more useless, he comes out with a gem like this.
 
No president, in his right mind, would allow illegal immigrants to stay in his country, or even welcome them. The illegals will put a huge strain on the country, and will rob South Africans of already scarce jobs.
 
Are these 3.8 million Zims from recent years? We will soon have more Zims than Whites in SA*. Frightening thought.

* Try not to make that statement become a racial fight. tx.
 
I actually liked David Bullard's suggestion: legalise them. Then they would be able to legally get jobs, instead of resorting to crime.

Errr yea, lets legalise them, so that they can take away the jobs from our own population (where unemployement is already sitting at 30% +).
 
In my limited experience Zim people in general seem to be much harder working. My domestic worker is from ZIM...never had a better employee.
 
Well the old government allowed the Rhodesians in and even gave them houses!!!

I dont like the idea either its inviting more crime/syndicates/drugs etc.

That could be considered if the borders were now closed and we were just thinking of how to deal with those already in SA.

Another point to consider is that we have rampant unemployment in our local population, so even legalizing them will not ensure jobs.

There are millions from other countries here too and still more on their way.

The exodus into South Africa can be equated with a swarm of locusts.
Today it is a few million, tomorrow tens of millions.

I am surprised at President Mbeki with his Economic Background?
Massive Urbanisation is a recipe for disaster.

No, but you can close the holes in the border. Thabo Mbeki is an absolute Idiot. What a pity he gets to choose the next president.
