SA's history gets online boost

I hate websites based on Flash, Linux does not run it on 64bit systems yet. The possibility does exist but its effort. Was hoping to see if they included the Boere history?

Good or bad - history needs to be remembered and from as many view points as possible. What's wrong with wondering how complete a website dedicated to SA History is?
 
De la Rey and his pals are there, some in more detail than others.

No doubt different groups will have vastly differing opinions of the site content but at the end of the day it is a step in the right direction from an education perspective.

I see that murderer McBride also made it in :sick:
Lets just hope that after celebrating his fame he doesnt get in his car.

Nothing wrong if that's all there is to it. But i get the feeling there's more in edc's case. :confused:

I thought I saw Anglo Boere war , Apartheid, treks... isn't that boere history....?

Nod, I am proud of it. It created the South-Africa we can enjoy today, sadly it was more enjoyable 10 years ago. See my signature concerning the HDI.

During the 2nd Boere war my great great grandmother killed many British troops. I wonder if the Afrikaaners should start a wiki project to document such events concerning out heritage, which formed this country. Anyone here who would participate?

Should have just made it a wiki type thing - then people could rewrite as they see fit.

Afrikaans is African. :) Furthermore, what I said concerning African things before, as you refer to it, is in context when people try exalt and trumpet it above Boere and Afrikaans, pointing out the reality, is not against African things.

The issue here is that you feel threatened whenever africans show any display of pride in who they are. That's the reason why you've trying so hard to turn this post into an topic about afrikaans.

Reality? I asked you to name one african language that uses english for its numerical system. That is what you said, and it's not reality mnr. It's a figment of you imagination. You don't know anything about african languages, so stop airing ignorant views as if they're real. If you don't know something, ask people who do know. We don't mind educating you.

WRT history being written by the victors . . I'm not so sure that's true anymore. Now that we have the internet the 'victors' can't control the flow of information.

This is an interesting point in what may otherwise have degenerated into the usual mud slinging. :p

History has the ability to die. What is news this decade is old in the next and within 100 years, is gone. While some tales may live on in internet blogs and wiki lists, I think they will be for the most part lost.

My daughter did not know who Jan Van Riebeck was, for eg.

By "Africans", do you mean black people? It gets confusing ...:rolleyes:
The problem with black SA pride, it that it very often comes across in the form of extreme, but misplaced, arrogance.

This is an adjustment of history. Some call it a denegration of culture. She doesn't know about Afrikaner history, because the government doesn't want her to.
