Is it possible to connect the APPLE TV to a 30" Apple HD Cinema Display ?

Hi.

Is it possible to connect the APPLE TV to a 30" Apple HD Cinema Display ?

The cables im thinking would be a DVI 2 HDMI converter.

Help .......... with any pro's & cons .......

Maybe this is pushing it a bit.... but if DSTV comes out with their HD Box, would it be possible to connect that box to the 30" Apple Display ?

Resolution Problem ?

Some research into this :

"Yes, you can connect them.

But you'll be stuck at quarter resolution (1280x800), leaving most of the screen wasted."

So i guess this would be a waste ?

I'd say its possible but we know the Apple TV will do 1080i and not just 800.

It's an issue with DUAL-DVI connections. In single DVI mode 30 inch screens, Apple or HP or Dell, output only at 1280 by 800 max or half of 2560 by 1600.
Its the same with connecting a BluRay player or PS3 to one of these dual-DVI monsters.

In fact since the 30 inch monitors don't do any image processing, even in dual-DVI mode you won't be able to watch 1080i/p at 1920by1080, the screen will be black.
You'll need your GFX card to scale the picture to 2560 by 1600.

BTW comparing the HP30 inch and the Dell 30 vs the Apple 30, the Apple comes bottom of the barrel. Not only is it outdated, non-HDCP capable,
it has a lower colour gamut, with the HP and Dell approaching the 100% colour gamut of OLED displays - even at 92%. The price is also
cheaper, the HP sells for R14K incl. at pcmall.com. I'd go for this screen if it wasn't the fact that connecting a PS3 won't give me any
HD output. If you really want to watch HD on a computer monitor go for a 24 inch 1920by1200 model, these babies have built in scalers
and can scale 1080p.

The picture will be stretched across, so you won't waste screenspace but
it won't be full HD either (1080).
