Dell LATITUDE D620 Bluetooth

Hi Guys

I got my laptop yesterday. It comes with integrated Bluetooth (among other things). Problem is, I haven't managed to use this feature:confused: .
That bluetooth LED is forever OFF!!! I have tried numerous time in vain to activate it by pressing and holding the Fn key then the F2 key but nothing!!! This is the second time that I am getting a new pc with integrated bluetooth. Prior to this one, I once also got a Dell, I dont remember exactly how I activated bluetooth but it was never a hassle.

After getting it (D620) I went to Start/Control Panel then looked for Bluetooth Devices but it wasn't there!!!

After trying so many times to activate it (Btooth LED) as per the Dell instructions I never succeeded! I then attached a btooth dongle hoping that the LED will activated but NOTHING!!

My question is, is there a faulty with this laptop?
If there is, my company will not bother to have it fixed cause its not essential (besides, the dongle works ok).
Or, is it possible that my company did not indicate that they wanted the btooth to be there? Apparently there is a 'btooth chipset' that is inserted under the battery, etc, etc in order for the intergrated btooth to work.

Oh, I have tried to look under the battery and yes, there is a slot (sim card size) and it's empty. Problem is, I dont know what is it for?

If I indeed need that btooth chipset, is it available here in SA? Where exactly (links), and at what price?
Also bearing in mind that my company deals directly with Dell in (IFinland, etc - not quite sure), but when they place orders they do that via Dell SA in Jo'burg, then the laptops takes forever to be shiped here (usually 14 - 28 days).

Have you made sure the module is enabled in the BIOS?

Are you sure it was in fact purchased with the laptop?

Sometimes they include it as one of the features you can get, but during the quoting and purchasing process it was never actually included.

After it is enabled in the BIOS, then you can start using the function (Fn) keys. You might need the Quickset app as well for this, which should be on your cd you got with the laptop.
 
Yea, i've got a strange feeling that you don't have the bluetooth module.

The bluetooth light may be there as they use a "standard chassis"...
 
If you go through your company, you should be able to get the module for around R300.

A while back Dell SA was selling it on their website for R217ish... I THINK...
 
I assume this is a company Dell D620 you received. Perhaps the easiest place to start would be to ask the people who bought it in terms of configuration.
 
Otherwise go to the dell website. It will check your Dell service tag and tell your everything about your laptop, from build date, to repairs, to current config

As I mentioned in my first post, this is not a priority. So m,y company wouldn't care less about this (after all, I can just get a dongle).

But I would consider buying it on my own (if ofcourse I can install it on my own without tempering with the warranty).

So, you saying this module is available locally, where?

Thats fruitless cause the person who places orders is our Office Admin and she is clueless!!

Yes on the left side just below the head phone and mic socket is a switch make sure it is slide towards you (the front of the laptop) to enable bluetooth :) I have a DELL D620 right in front of me :)

I dont even have that Service tag? Maybe I should first ask what is it, where do you get it?

Aha, I was wondering as I have the 820 and didn't know if they were the same.
 
Switch the flipping thing on, the little blue light under the BlueTooth sign should go on.

Failing that look under the laptop for a sticker marke "Tag Number" and PM it to me. I will search the Dell support site for you.

The first click towards you enables the BT and the further slide enables the WiFi.

you will note than bluetooth is optional sorry guy, but if the switch does'nt turn it on, its not there.

Good news is, If you put a simcard in it, you can use HSDPA dialup!. vera naais!

AHA, I did mention that under the battery there is a simcard size slot but there is nothing in it!!! Do you think if I insert any sim card (VM) it will work (evenb though VM has no HSDPA)? I do have a company 3G card (Voda) but since my company did not upgrade to 1gb per month on the first of April:mad: , i'm still stuck with 500mb per month which is nothing. So having this feature on the laptop is a life saver!!!;)
