Maybe someone has some advice on the premium combo router

I got this ##$%^&^% marconi premium combo router for free from telkom because I did a self install on my adsl line, but for the life of me I cannot get the flippen thing to work.

My wireless network card sees the router fine, but then gets stuck on:"Acquiring network address", and then finally just times out.

I can give me wireless network card a fixed ip, and then it connects immediately, but I cannot get it to connect to the internet (although it does connect through normal ethernet port).

What am I missing (except that its a telkom modem).

Please let me know what before I lube it up and take it back

Had similar problems using static IP. You need to set up your router to port forward.

try portforwarding

their site also has a lot of other common router / firewall problems and fixes
 
Have you changed your password settings from the factory defaults on the router?
also have you run through the "verification" process with Telscum?

Once you install you need to verify your line with them online. **** can't remember the site exactly, but I'll check it when I get home tonight and post it for you

Well I can connect 100% to the net if I use the ethernet port on the router without a problem, its when I try the wireless that I have the problem
 
You might have done this but when you've made the ip adress static, did you add the router as default gateway and primary dns also?
 
Well, if u do decide to take it back, all they probably gonna do is replace it with its newer model, the Mega 100WR, which can be equally crap at times ;)

Those are all superG and are available in 54mbps at around R150-00 less.
 
I've got the premium combo and I'm just using it for wireless at the moment with a netgear running DHCP, NAT etc for me. It might help to read my thread asking for help :D Here.

Beyond that, good luck with this horrible router.
 
I had one and you need to make sure the network key on the marconi is the same you use in your wireless network setup. When you get it to assign the ip save your configuration, if the power go out you might need to do the setup again when it is back on because the marconi seem to lose it's configuration and revert back to the default settings.

I've gone thro 3 modems in 2 wks and they all rubbish no wonder they giving them away!!!
