Telkom Charges R1800 more for ADSL Installation

After explicitly asking Telkom several times when speaking to them during the process telkom explained to me they still charged me for the Router.

I heard from my friend who applied for an ADSL installation that if you opt for the Self Install package that they will include the router for free.

My friend got his ADSL 2 weeks before me but he assured me that the router is free - and for him it was.

After a month of using my ADSL i got a Bill from Telkom for R2500.00 where they charged me almost R900.00 for the router additional but this is not all

Because Telkom has the so called soft-cap I decided to use telkom as my ISP. I noticed on my bill that Telkom had charged me twice for 3 gb usage, that is for april - may AND may - june, except; I only got my ADSL a few days before the 11th of may for which they charged me for 3gb of bandwidth which was going to expire in the next few days.

This all in all exceeded an unagreed amount of +/-R1200.00 on my account. I used their website to inform them of my grievance; but I am almost sure they wont come back to me.

Any recommendations from my fellow posties :confused: ?

Got my ADSL 1st of March and ordered telkominternet same day, the pigs also charged me twice without informing me how it works:mad: :mad: ....

After lots of phone calls to telkom, i found out eventually that their billing cycles are on 11th of the current month to the 12th of the next month.

Because i ordered it on the 1st March they charged me twice for 11th Feb-12th Mar and 12th Mar to the 11th April. no Pro-Rata and didnt inform me of this.

Irrespective of this i only had 3 gigs of bandwidth for the month of march anyway so i was royaly screwed:( . tried talking to the pigs but that done no good. hope you have better luck than me i ended up just paying them...
 
Yup that is exactly what happened to me; i argued with them on the phone - they said that a dispute is logged; I dont know if they will come back to me.

TELKOM makes you pay for bandwidth whcih you cannot use.
 
I also logged a dispute, the only person that came back to me was some accounts guy asking when i'm gonna pay my account:confused:. i cancelled my subcription with telkominternet right after that, i'm now with openweb/webafrica, the service there is worlds apart!
 
there are two errors on my account; telkom refused to log 2 disputes on the same number; only dispute at a time.

So I explained to the lady that once they resolved the one dispute there will be some fineprint saying that all disputes on an account needs to be raised within a few days of getting the account or something like that

Eventually after screaming at them long enough they logged two disputes on the account. Alas.... I still have to see if they will bother coming back to me.

They made me pay for the Router when I was supposed to get it for free; i have a receipt saying Router combo R0.00 so I'll see how they argue with that.

Keep the papers they give you when getting ADSL.
 
Charged double

My first account reflecting my new Closer 4 option arrived in the mail... and what a royal screw over!!! I was charged double for option 4. I complained just now at a Telscum direct shop, but was informed by a smiling consultant that "this is how Telkom products work". In the first month, you pay for the month you're in, but you also have to pay a month in advance... Had to contain my mouth there for a second, or five! This does make my R1275 account any less! Evil in disguise! Devil woman...

And now I read on MyADSL that our dear minister of time wasting is giving Telscum another 4 (yes, FOUR) years to unbundle the local loop... Plenty time to keep screwing us... It must be illegal/unconstitutional for government to be protecting their 38% interest in Telscum like this??? Probably not killing the goose that is laying the golden egg?

Any advice? When will Neotel be able to supply a competing service? Can't wait!

same thing happened here too - almost had a heart attack at the first phone bill! And to top it off I got my adsl on like the 26th of the month and by the end of the month had only used about 100mb thinking they would charge me a not the full amount but a ratio of how long I had the line - noooooo. I get hit the full amount.

you learn these things as you go - won't be caught again!
 
Just an update; but not confirmed;

Telkom phoned my wife and they said that they will credit the amount for the Router; but I have not yet been able to phone them and check this out. They also said they will forward the request of paying for the Bandwidth which I couldnt possibly use within 5 days, so that this be credited too.

I will confirm this; but this is what has been going on so far.
 
Just to confirm; Telkom Credited both the Router and the 3 Gig bandwidth back to my account. After screaming and shouting and fighting; the price came down from 2500 to 1200 (considering some phone calls were made on the line) this is not bad.

Telkom from my perspective is off the hook - THIS TIME
