A new blog that purports to be written by a former male prostitute in South Africa has become the focus of a criminal investigation into claims of defamation.

The blog, hosted on an international blogging platform and active since April this year, contains detailed descriptions of the alleged sexual behaviour of prominent South Africans. Among those who allegedly paid the author of the blog for sex are a politician, a rugby star, a stage performer, well-known journalists and a prominent Afrikaans minister.

I thought this part was pretty interesting considering all the fobs that whine about wanting to sue MyAdsl when they get caught out..

South Africa has not seen a case like this in court before, only coming close at times with, for example, former Sundowns soccer boss Natasha Tsichlas taking action, unsuccessfully, against Kick Off magazine's online forums after derogatory comments about her were published there.

I wonder what sort of culpability there would be for MyADSL
Cull also pointed out that another website or blog posting a link to the sex blog would be aiding and abetting in defamation.

Is it only a link if it is hyperlinked?

Exactly, it'll make it harder to enforce takedown notices, probably not such a bad idea...
 
Whoever wrote the blog chose his targets carefully- a lot of famous men whose sexuality is suspect. Dunno about Simon Grindrod but if I was him I would definitely contact my lawyer because it seems like an obvious smear.

No-one cares about the other subjects.
 
When people get up in arms over something it usually means there is truth behind it. Obviously the next step will be to attack the credibility of the blogger. Personally its easy to guess that its accurate because of its content.

I read somewhere that somebody wants Interpol to get involved etc. The beauty of the internet is that its a chance for free speech to exist. If these people wherent high profile then it wouldnt be a big deal. Its tough if barry decided he wanted to be a toilet and now he cant handle the embarresment of the world knowing about it. If Interpol or the NIA waste precious resources on this, then that should be cause for an outcry. There are more important things to worry about like terrorism and crime syndicates than for them to waste time protecting a few people from scandal.

Part of being a celebrity means you must be careful with what you do, if not then its too bad if this kind of thing happens. The internet is something that cant be easily censored so they should just deal with it.

Since gay marriage is now accepted and being gay is almost normal what have they got to be ashamed of. Well except for little simon and barry "scatting" ronge.

I think that deserves a titalating 10 ( on barrys tits )

the fact that some got all up tight means they might have somethng to hide.. cause like everything on the net u can't believe everything u read especially not a blog site.
