That stupid web page keeps on popping up asking me to download it. Now i m getting messages telling me my PC is infected download and scan blah blah balh. I just cant seem to get rid of it!

Virus scans and Everything it just dont want to go away. any ideas.

You can try and get the spyware off and never be 100% sure you've got it all . . . . or you can reinstall windoze. :o
 
Ok, firstly turn off system restore (control panel, system, restore tab). The download avast free antivirus (AVG wouldn't clean my moms PC of this), install avast. Start up PC in save mode if you can. Run avast and let in clean the virus, empty temporary internet files, restart pc, if you want enable system restore again...

then download avg and do not use IE use firefox for your internet

also stop the dodgy porn sites with .exe to millions of video's *g*


system restroe helped my virus problems 9 month later all is good now

If you're running XP, use ZoneAlarm, there is a free edition, but the full suite is the best ;)

Make sure your router firewall is also enabled, it's the first line of defense ;

If you're on XP, use Windows Defender:

Also, if you've done the scan and cleared your system, make sure to check for Viruses as well,

AVG and Avast! and Antivir come to mind, just google for them, all of them have free versions, I'd recommend Avast! ;)

Dude, first rules of ADSL, using a router.

Always enable your firewall
Always change your default router password (not your ISP account password, although you can change that too if you want)

Click start>run> type in: cmd >press enter>type in: ipconfig>press enter>look at default gateway.

Use IE or Firefox ant type your default gateway into the address bar> press enter> if it asks for username and password, check your router manual, if it's a telscum router, the username is admin and the password is admin or administrator

Look through all the router options until you find the firewall, enable it and save it ;)

Done :p ;) :D

changed the router password when I got the router and it seems the firewal was enabled by default.

Feo, are you allowed to use other ISP's on your DO account?

If so, take a look at the openweb packages with openbrowse.

Openbrowse is a service which let's you browse international sites, after using your cap.

Take a look at it here.

If you look at the 2GB package with 192K openbrowse, it will cost you R219 per month and I think it's month to month, not sure.

The 30GB local could be used to download content from the IS news server. So in effect, you use the first 2GB, have 192K speeds openbrowse and you can download 30GB off usenet ;)

Was planning on getting a 10GB local only for 60 bucks and using the IS news server, I'm just ranting about Telkom's pathetic 1 gig they expect you to survive on, plus I think it's hardcapped. :( Anyhow this account will last me another day or 2then I gotta quickly learn the ins and outs of news servers. ;)
 
I wonder if MrBeep allows for a seperate Openbrowse subscription? I'd love to have the 10GB local only with 192 or 384 openbrowse ;)

Btw. you do need international access to get NZB files (the usenet files)

I have a prepaid account, you buy it in 1GB's, it's R70 for shaped, it rolls over to the next month and if you need more, you just buy another Gig ;)

Download the following programs;

Avast! AntiVirus 4.7
AVG Antispyware ( 30 Day Trial, but very good )
COMODO Firewall

Those are probably your best bet to a FREE Internet Security Solution. If they don't fix it, PM me and we can try and sort it.

Otherwise, I'd recommend buying NOD32 for R350 from your local vendor. ;)
 
This Avast Program seems pretty stable. Does it act as a firewall or would i have to download a seperate one. Is windows firewall any good?

Avast is very good ;) Windows firewall fails on all areas, it's really not a good firewall at all. I recommended ZonAlarm free to feo, but GBM recommended Comodo, he's the expert however.

I've just got my own preferences ;)

Zone Alarm I've actually heard of.
