oh no.

hmmm.... this is the same people who say they deserve this kinda increase, 'if u pay peanuts u get monkeys', me wondering how this genius figured out how/where Zuma will get the munny to afford it  ... perhaps sum private stash o' cash hidden away :) how long can it last?
IMO, peanuts or gold coins.... the monkeys will stay

...but on the flipside... if the gov didn't p!ss away millions of bucks thru k@k service and f*ups like with eskom and traffic dept (to name but a few), then they wud be able to afford to give these guys a decent increase too....

If you work like a monkey would work, you will be paid like a monkey.

I worked like a dog this December, I only earned enough to cover food, (I was working at a loss). I am a qualified financial accountant. I had 8.8 million worth of stock to find (it was lost, not costed, not put through the system or stolen).

I had 2 people working under me. I worked 10-11 hours a day, took up extra responsibilities of implementing a new accounting computer system, I tested it live before the deadline, which identified serious errors. I solved those errors, even though it was not part of job description.

When I finish studying this year, I am sure I will get a well paying job at that firm, or the distributer of the accounting software, or from the holder company of the subsidiary I worked for. My point is, if you work very hard, if you do your job very well, you will be rewarded for it in the long term, it works like that. You will be payed nothing now, next year you will be rewarded if you proved yourself.

I have to wait 3 months for my original birth certificate, it has been more than a month for my passport. These guavamint workers have not earned a better salary, they are not more productive.

Inflation, in one aspect is a good thing, it allows an employer to reduce the effective salary of the employees over the long term, without them seeing it reflected on their cheque in actual cash terms. They will continue to receive R100, never R99 but R100 over a year is R99 now. Unproductive workers do not get a salary increase, those who deserve it, are rewarded.

I have heard from a teacher that their current salary increase every year is 0.02% above that of inflation. That might seem reasonable since it means they will get the same salary in real terms every year, but many of their other benefits doesn't get scaled up with inflation and are based on out-dated numbers which translates into next to nothing in today's terms.
I think that the teachers are most upset about that fact, and wants to be compenstated in terms of increased salary now instead of increased benefits.

Good teachers work very hard, as do nurses and the police. None of these people get rewarded. This is true in general - it is rare to find companies that reward hard work and extra effort. Most people eventually realise there is no point wasting your time and energy doing more than required. The difference is that teachers et al start out with pitiful pay, so pitiful increases leave them even more screwed.
