Strange the way these government convoys are so common place now...I seem to see one almost weekly now.

When I was growing up I don't recall seeing a single government convoy under the old government. You would have thought they would have needed high speed convoys more considering all their enemies?

Depends on how you define "enemies". For this crowd their enemies include responsibility, prudence, respect, and patience.

The needle is being pushed further and further on the fool-o-meter. It's starting to hit red on a regular basis now. 2010 is going to break the fool-o-meter as the needle is going to get stuck at the end. I can just imagine all the VIP train f-ups we're going to see then ... but maybe what we are seeing now is practise runs for 2010. The circus in the south ...

It was only a matter of time before this happened!
Let's see if any accountability is forthcoming from the Presidential Convoy,

oh i just love it .....
it's about time they learn that the Very Impotant Poepol drivers are not the only one on the road .... now we know where the taxis get their driving skills ... " i wanna be a driver !!!! " ohhh .... Fubar mentality !!!

The Dept of Transport (Trainsports) is pushing for HOV (High Occupancy Vehicles) and BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) lanes on major arterials and freeways ... but it's actually intended as VIP lanes - to protect normal road users from these high speed VIP cartrains.

It is amazing, this gvt can do nothing right. Everything they do is such a disaster. What a joke. And these guys are running the country? ROFL

so a motorist crashes into the Presidential convoy and it is an indication that Government can do nothing right ?

This Government has done much more for the people of this country than the incompetent buffoons who ran the country into the ground during Apartheid

Arguably they at least did it more effeciently. :p

Well this isn't exactly an isolated incident as regards convoys is it? And despite the way you immediately assume it was the motorist's fault the facts seem to suggest otherwise:

"They drove through the crossing. There were vehicles coming from the freeway. The VIP-unit car, the BMW, drove into the crossing to stop the traffic."

"The woman's car was already in the crossing.

In the path of oncoming traffic

"She had no way out and nowhere to go. She hit the car full-on from the front."

Public should drag the driver out of the BMW and teach him some respect.

I think this is where you lose the plot. This type of thing is wrong, whether in the days of apartheid or today.

Government is for the people, not the STATUS of the governor. Even the new open Government refused to indicate to the public whose convoy it was. The public has the right to know.

In the old days we had laws that limited the access to information, now we have a whole new thing called spokesperson, and they are in fact worse, very often they tell outright lies.
