My plasma blew up and makro havent got another one for me :(

I bought a 50" plasma just under a year ago
Its as nice set
1366x768 native res
1080p over component
hdmi and hdcp compliant
5 year warranty

Excellent picture quality, best they had in the store.

However it went pop one day, one board blew, power issue.

So after them having it for the last 2 months they haven't been able to get it fixed, now they want to give me my 20k back in credit and buy another tv!

Problem is they don't have any 50" sets with the above specs AT ALL, they have smaller sets with worse specs too, the only 50" they have is a the sony bravia REAR PROJECTOR piece of rubbish.

They are expecting me to just accept a inferior set, what do i do?
 
Demand the exact same unit or your money back, not credit, its not your fault they cant replace or fix it.

Was it a Panasonic?

If not, use the money towards a 50'' Panasonic Viera plasma. :)
 
they cannot get the same unit, no more production
 
demand your money back... or go to the press. i wouldn't accept anything less. if you're in the cape town area, you could always try argus action.
 
Id just worry about getting my monies worth, choose something thats R1000 more than your old TV and tell them you want that one and dont want to pay the difference!!!

I dgo for LCD even if its smaller. Or go cheaper with a smaller plasma and get the difference in vouchers and get a PS3!!
 
i got my money back!

anyway, with the 1080p input on a 720p set it does have its advantages,
1. Certian devices including the ps3 would only do 1080p for the scaling of the dvd's, so you either choose 480p or 1080p, now which do you think looks better ?
2. My xbox doing a 1080p signal , the plasma scales it down to 720p, but this action provides a AA kind of effect, games did look better at 1080p
 
Month and a half ago i bought myself the LG 42pcRR. Not from Macro, but from a normal supplier. 6 days later the HDD on the thing failed.

Waited since the beginning of april for them to send me a new one. About 2 weeks ago, the supplier phoned me, and told me, my replacement set has arrived, and they will ship it the following day. Later on he phones me, and said that they send the wrong model, instead of the 42pcRR (Plasma), they send the 42lcRR (LCD TV), abd he expected me to pay an extra 2000 on it.

Well I told, him that he has till 8 o'clock the following morning to have the tv at my place, and I am not paying a cent more, i do not care which model it is. And guess what, the following morning at 8 am, a brand spanking new LCD Tv was at my door..

So push them and dont take no for an answer. Tell them you are not settling for anything less and only better will do
 
hi fi corruption, I would never, go to them ever again. they give you the run around and refer you directly to the suppliers when it comes to honouring warranties and the like. If you can refer me to the supplier now, why couldn't I just buy it from them at the price you paid for it, that's my reasoning. Stay Away from hi Fi Corruption.
 
I've never had a hassle with them and I've spent a fair bit over the last 5 or 6 years. They even honoured a warranty that was 3 month past it's expiry because the item had been in storage.

I guess you just gotta know how to speak to people.
 
ahh bboy I am looking at a plasma tv as well. Sounds Great Clearwater (jhb) have a nice looking 42" Samsung plasma for R16 500.00.

I was all set for a 40" R81 LCD but the picture quality on this unit blew me away. Its apparently the new generation of plasmas from Samsung. Model No PS-42Q91

I am probably going to buy one on Saturday (YAY). I will let you know what my experiences are if you interested.

it was an EXCELLENT display, the image reproduction was flawless
and it was very compatible, never had a hassle plugging anything into it, pc , xbox360, ps3 etc etc

they just don't have as good a set for sale, only other set i saw come close to image was the sony sxrd thingy which cost 32k at another shop

What make was the unit, Sinotech or MAXDORF perhaps?

The best plasma makers are Hitachi, Pioneer and Panasonic. So far,
only Pioneer has a full HD plasma, but they are pricey. My 2 year
old Hitachi HD plasma is still going strong :). *Holds thumbs*
 
ISn't Makro the same company as GAME. So maybe you could wangle a credit note for that store. They may have a different selection.
