Hey all,

I was just wondering if any of you have had dealings with Laptop Direct? They are part of the ComXpert International group of web sites:

http://www.laptopdirect.co.za
http://www.ComputerStore.co.za
http://www.comx.co.za
http://www.comx-computers.co.za
http://www.mecerpc.co.za
http://www.i-capit.co.za

I'm just a bit confused as to why they have so many websites??!

I'm looking to buy a laptop through them and just want to know if they are legitimate? What do you think of that laptop btw?

Thanks!
David

Its a simple marketing concept, they buy all relevant domains and then render a service, lots of companies do it ,some a bit more sneaky ;) than others, (check out http://www.incredeble.co.za/ and then, http://www.incredible.co.za/)

The company is good, very competitive prices, I bought my laptop from them a while back very happy with it, one thing they should probably consider is alternative payment options, they only have direct deposit at the moment, but that could also mean a price hike, to cover the costs.

About your choice it's a nice piece of kit, but all in all it depends on, what you will be using it for?

Yeah I compared prices with incredible and laptop direct...hate to say this but incredible connection actually had better prices for its laptops than most online shops....that was 3 months ago by the way

do not buy mecer man

do not do it

i repeat do not do it

incredible has great pricing on laptops, they rip off on everything but laptops

Why a 14" screen Davidpey, u can get a 15.4" for the same price.

ComX and all other stores are fantastic. Don't worry just buy. I'm using them for last 2-3 year, company that I work for using them as well

Mine took 1 1/2 working days till i had it

Would you believe that the same was true for me! My friend ordered his (exactly the same as mine) on Sunday and sent confirmation of payment on Monday morning. I paid and confirmed payment on Saturday.

We both received our laptops on Monday afternoon (early). This crowd is seriously jacked up!

Just had one problem with it though -- I tried to create a recovery DVD which failed three times (i.e. three lost DVD's). I then emailed them last night at about 9pm and got a reply at 6:30am today saying that the DVD writer could be faulty and that they will order a new laptop for me (since the laptop was DOA [defective on arrival]).

I then replied back with my address at 7:42am and received a reply within 1 minute at 7:43am saying that they will send courier today to collect. EDIT: I've just been informed that the new laptop is on it's way!

The laptop is much nicer than the site even makes out. It's got a webcam, dual mic, fingerprint reader, MS Works 2006, 5 type card reader and remote control to use with the various media players and apps on the laptop.

As far as things have gone so far, I can highly recommend LaptopDirect.

Well, the new laptop arrived on the 12th June and everything appears to be great and working correctly.

The delay in delivery supposedly had something to do with the supplier (and therefore not LaptopDirect).

Thus far, I can still recommend them as a great company to deal with. Very fast support responses and very helpful (even after 5pm!).

Have you seen these? I just had to share:
I know of two (computer related!) cell sites only

http://m.jump.co.za
and now
http://m.computerstore.co.za

If you are a PC geek like me, then on-the move browsing on my Nokia seems sad, but when I sit around waiting for things to happen, like at the doctor, this is where I go. Sad. But whatever.

Apparantly, clicking on any link on jump costs the poor advertisers R1 a click. On a cell, it takes you to a really crappy looking site layout because they are not mobile sites. But for browsing around, no problem on jump itself.

I also use
http://m.24.com

Also, just as a quick tip: Just get Opera Mini for your cell. Freezes up on my old cell phone, too little memory, works fine on my new one.

PC Format also has a Mobizine but I didn't register, now that would be just too sad. Anyone registered for their Mobizine? I might reconsider if it is actually worth it. Rather buy the magazine.
