Opinions on the PS3, from PS3 owners

I found a thread on the Prophecy forum quite interesting...

Basically the guy who started it, wanted to know what the PS3 owners are thinking about their PS3's since it's been out for a while now. Since all the hype are gone now, people can get a more realistic look at what they're getting from the console.

Overall it turns out that...

1. The number of PS3 users (here) is about as small as the Wii contingent.
2. PS3 gamers here are very happy with their "investment".
3. The machine really is a technological wonder: Silent, cool, reliable. With all the chips, Bluray, HDD, etc stuffed in there, it is commendable.
4. No regrets (yet).
5. PS3 gamers seem upbeat about the future... remarkable.

Nice seeing the opinions from actual PS3 owners for a change and not from people who sometimes never even played on it.

It all looks good, I did notice though that virtually every response asked for more games which is no suprise....

I have to say though that nothing there made me feel like I should be spending R7k on a machine anytime soon.

I am in a few competitions to win one though so hold thumbs :D
 
Being an Xbox 360 owner I must say that the PS3 is quite impressive, looks to be a lot more reliable than the Xbox as well.

My biggest problem with the PS3 is that I cannot see one worthwhile reason to spend R3000 more on a console that does exactly the same thing as a R3400 xbox.

Second problem is not so much a problem with the console, but the low variety of games available. You can't really blame the game developers though, as Sony seems intent on making it as hard as possible to develop anything for the PlayStation.

I do think however think that MS and Sony can learn lots from each other. MS can learn some about reliability and steady design, and Sony can learn LOTS about controllers from the Xbox.

Just my 2c worth, lets not turn this into a fanboi flamewar orgy, even though it will probably turn into that as always :P

I have to laugh at the cool and specifically quiet comments, that's like calling 360 reliability rock solid . . .

more power to those who are happy with their purchases I'm very happy for them, but I'm with Frik (naturally), Money is obviously not an issue for these people.

Actually, I've yet to post one bad thing about the 360. I've actually said a couple of times that the 360 is a better purchase (at the moment) than the PS3.
 
Id definitely buy a PS3 if it were half the price and I could use my 360 controller with it. :cool:
 
I see it this way. If you spend R7000 on a product you don't want to look foolish, so you say you are happy. You won't see much honest comment until their units are a bit older.
 
lets face it. if the ps3 cost 3000-4000 then there would be some serious competition. the mere fact that a ps3 owner has to justify their purchase by saying they are 'happy' with their purchase tells us that there is something wrong with the console and right now i pin it on price and lack of games.
 
And im ecstatic that i had to fork out teh amount i did to get the console, now roll on with those titles already!:D

ya know i didnt have this cr@p when i forked out R4200 for the ps2 that long while back:sick:
