Welcome to the forum
Could you tell me if it is possible to connect to virgin while roaming on vodacom and get 3g speed. i know that it was possible but i cannot get more than gprs now.

You mean select Vodacom network when Virgin is not functioning properly (regular occurence) . ... Well, I cannot do it anymore. It appears some bright spark raised the matter with the Vodacom rep and it was stopped!

VM have some plans for a faster product (if they can be believed) , though no timescale has been released.

Faster product how? Doesnt cell c itself have to upgrade?
Or by asking vodacom to allow their 3g roaming for us again?

Oh! How are you connecting, 'coz it used to work for me, now it doesn't.
Besides, Vodacom data has it's own issues, esp if only trying to use GPRS speeds.

I'm using the E220 with Huawei software. I set the connection type to 3G only and choose Vodacom manually. After you log on, it shows the signal as HSDPA. Then I just connect using Virgin connection settings.

When you roam on Vodacom, unfortunateklty you will be limited to either EDGE or GPRS. You wont be able to use any 3G or HSDPA services until such time that our network is upgraded to support such.

Welcome to the forum ndlovu_f!
I have some questions. Why do we have 3 'VM' representatives now? Is that not overkill? And when will you, SCUZ and GTVM be getting your official “VM Representative” badge?

They have to have several reps to cope with all the complaints about their service.:D

Also, they tend to go on holiday without telling us, so with 3 people here the odds of having one present are better.

I'm currently connected with my Virgin SIM on Vodacom's 3G network. I know this because in the Mobile Connect Software it reports HSDPA | Voda. But the speeds are aweful... at best what you would expect of an EDGE connection. I wonder if this has been deliberately throttled because I'm attaching myself to the "vdata" instead of "internet" AP. BTW, I'm based in Cape Town.

I afraid putting another rep on the forum is not really going to anything as there is no technical ability to back it up.

I have seen what a Cell-C "Network Engineer looks like ......... I am still laughing on the inside.

I have never received a single piece of intelligent feedback, it is mostly limited to damage control for VM. When they can't or won't fix an error it is more than likely that they will give you some airtime and hope that the problem goes away.

@MyDraadloos,

Well, then they owe me a lot of airtime. :)
